Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs!
Maslow’s is one of the most commonly used theories by not only sport marketers but all marketers and the wider business community! Although the theory was developed in Abraham Maslow’s 1943 paper, A Theory of Human Motivation, the underlying messages and logic still holds true today.
Physiological - Sport provides one of the most important aspects of life, Physical and Mental Activity. It has been proven that regular participation in sport can help a persons physical and mental help thus improving the Physiological level of the Hierarchy.
Safety - Throughout all aspects of life Safety is vital. Over the past few years the sports industry has come under fire due to the lack of safety regulations for athletes and officials. This is a basic human right and should be a top priority for all sporting organisations.
Love and Belonging - Sport is great at bringing a diverse cultures together as one. Sport is a global language and has benefits far beyond entertainment or physical activity. Team sports are often use as bonding exercises to allow strangers to work together and brush aside their differences. The sport world acts as one big Family!
Esteem - Sports can be used as a mood booster and confidence builder. Participating in a sporting team, along with feel apart of something, you can also feel more confident. Wanting to win and achieving/executing plays can allow the body to feel better about its self.
Self Actualisation - Is all about finding and furthering you potential. Sport can assist with the setting and achieving of goal and therefore helping you smash you potential as a person.
