A picture from 7 years ago, today, taken at 4am. 👶 She and our other 2 kids are a big reason that I’ve worked in #solar and energy efficiency financing since 2006. For the sake of our kids and the rest of God’s creation we just cannot keep using coal, oil and natural gas. Boy Scouts taught me that when I pack up after camping to leave the place better than when I arrived. That’s how I try to live. Our current dominate energy sources are resulting in many people’s lives being either cut short or many more being made ill. And costs just keep going up and up. We see that in our utility bills at home and work every year. Pollution from the use of fossil fuels killed nearly 5 million people around the world in 2010 (and 100,000,000 made sick - 1-2 out of every 10 people across the whole earth), according to a report by DARA. Total global costs, which were estimated at more than $600 billion in 2010, are expected to rise to $4.35 trillion by 2030. "Bad Religion" is equating the Jesus Dream as the American Dream. That's the next sermon on 9/10 at @thefriendchurch in Clovis, CA. "There are times we need to separate from the decision of our country because our country is not our God. Just as the Christians in Rome. The Roman Empire was the America of its day. It had the strongest military, the most wealth, the greatest technology, and for its time, the greatest rule of law. Crucifixion was reserved for those who were considered enemies of the state (the two “thieves” crucified with Jesus were not thieves, they were “political rebels” which is a better translation). How then, can Jesus people, simply think obeying His vision means to fall in line with everything in America? It did not mean Rome and it does not mean America, there are lines to draw and we must give God what is God’s." Controversial? Maybe, but this Sunday we will explore where we are personally with this. Perhaps we are chasing the American Dream at the cost of Jesus' Dream.
