same anon. i agree! i actually picked up the magazine due to their issue on architects who proudly call their work ‘third world architecture,’ as they push against the idea that progression is to become western in aesthetic. instead the architects featured use local materials, keep the outside facade as it is, and donate space to the local businesses to ensure that the spaces remain wholly of their country.
i was surprised to find that their online presence is so ‘tiny house movement,’ because their publication, while definitely put together by a middle-class studio, really put in effort to champion the architects of the above. let me see if i can find the issue number.

the below can be fully ignored, or if read, to bear in mind that i am at best a hobbyist at everything i do.
having been away from academia for a long time, i probably lack the correct frameworks and references to express a nuanced opinion, but the design of "tiny houses", "tiny apartments" etc. (to differ from objets d'arts miniatures) , architectural, interior, exterior, while fascinating and certainly have many merits, their promotions in recent times are in no uncertain terms exploitative, and conditioning us towards an attitude of complacency towards a type of urban planning & capitalistic treatment of space & architecture that are hostile.
all the while, to look at socialist urban architecture with their diminuitive apartments, (now perhaps remnants), in "the eastern blocks", or, the architectural texture of countries considered "the global south", such as vietnam etc. as "decay", or some affront to "acceptable" living standards, […] or to reduce this (and the formulation of living spaces) to mere "aesthetics" is also a fault, a capitalistic trick* to steer one towards "habitats for profits" over "habitats for people". in fact, it has been times and times over used as an excuse for corporations to swoop in and alter the urban landscape into one of homogenised, sterile profitability. Hanoi and Manchester are my lived experiences of this tragedy.
*arguably, deeply rooted in imperialism & orientalism
architecture is political.
does that mean that neither, either, or none of these things - should or shouldn't exist? not really, there is a balance where every single one of us can create a home of any-which sizes, and fill them with anything-whatsoever, for us, for living, rather than for sale or for rent.

It started with a project I made during my MA. Tough times, really missed my grandparents and the sense of belonging in childhood which I can't seem to find again as an adult.
Miniatures just lend itself well in this context. When it comes to materials, I'd always have a soft spot for paper and ephemeras, so it was a natural step.
