IN MY MIND

“You’re such a goober. Of course, in the end of that Christmas special Toby ends up getting the guy. I’m pretty easy to win over, I’d like to think there’s good in everyone, so I give them a shot. Still, you do have a way with words. I’d like something that had to do with you as well, like a band name that would make it known that you’re my other half, speaking only as part of the band of course. In the lifetime movie special, this is the part where you kiss me.”

“That I am. The kids back home called me ‘Goober Tobias’. It wasn’t very catchy. Then it’s definitely a Hallmark only special. I haven’t got the guy yet but it’s also not the end, there’s still time. You’ve got a big heart, I like it. The entire music industry will know we are an unstoppable pair. Do you want me to kiss you? I can.”

“Only if you’d buy them all. I already did write a Christmas special, it’s how Toby and Rumor met. Oh please, now you’re just teasing. You’ve certainly got better material than what I just stringed together. No, you’re just trying to win me over and swoon me. What would our band name be? Rumor has it? Well, at least you’re cute.”

“Of course I will, I’ll hang them on my pegboard. I love that Christmas special, I hope they play some reruns during the year. Would I do a thing like that? I mean, I would try to win you over, but I thought I’d already done that. It’s a good play on words, it would go with our poetic lyrics. Why, thank you. You’re pretty cute, yourself. Not that I’m stealing your compliments.”

“Let me be cheesy now. Hopefully the mark of my name will never wash of, because our love should be something so epic and treasured. Wow, I feel so cheesy, I should be put on a sandwich. That was lame, I’m sorry. No, I quite like poets actually. Screw everybody else, la vie boheme, and do what makes you happy. Oh, well I don’t really sing, so you can just forget that little spectacle.” Rumor blushed. “They always say it’s more about the person than the name, and you’re someone I’m sure not many would want to forget. I don’t.”

“My, my. You should write cheesy hallmark cards, or some kind of like Christmas special. Don’t apologize, I liked it. I don’t usually hear someone say something more poetic than me. Thanks, I appreciate hearing that. I thought it was good, I almost pulled out my guitar and played with you. We could be a two man band. I may not be as great of a person as you might think I am, but i’ll try to not disappoint.”

“That you do, but you shouldn’t sully your skin like that. Not gonna say if you’re already likable enough, that’s for the audience to decide. Poet? W-Wait, how did you know? You’ve been watching me?” Rumor smiled as he quirked a brow at the male. Taking the marker, he scribbled down the other’s name in the back of his own palm. “Now, I’ll surely remember.”

“This will eventually wash off, at least. Will our audience call in to the station to tell us? Yes, a poet. Please don’t be one of those people who tell me I’m wasting my life. I’ve heard that enough. I can’t share all of my secrets, but you did just give me a preview.” Toby grinned wide. “Good. I was hoping you’d remember. It’s not too tough of a name.”

“Now our lifetime movie becomes a musical, and our song will me the one from the breakfast club. Don’t you forget about me, as you walk on by, will you call my name? So, it’s pretty clear you’d be my love interest in the movie. So apart from being in a movie with me, what do you do Toby?”

“And I will definitely call your name, I have it written down to remind me.  I will try to be a likable love interest. I’m a traveling poet and performer, but I think you’re gonna put me out of business with your singing.”

“You know in the lifetime movie version of this, this is the moment I would blush at that cheesy, but kind of adorable gesture.”

“I’ll just pretend you did, it’ll make me feel better.”

“Don’t know if I leave enough of an impression to be remembered, so it’s kind of blurry thing.”

“Fairly sure I’ll remember you. You know what.” Reaching into his pocket, Toby pulled a sharpie out and wrote ‘Rumor’ of the back of his hand. “I’m not gonna forget you any time soon.”

“Yeah, why’s that?”

“Wouldn’t you be disappointed to be forget?”

“I’ll be sure to remember that Toby.”

“You better, or I’m going to be very disappointed.”

“Rumor, yours?”

“Rumor, huh? I’m Tobias, but Toby’s fine.”

“You, I like.”

“Thanks, kid. You’re not so bad yourself. You got a name?”

“Well, isn’t normal just a concept invented by society to determine what is acceptable? I’m just having a little fun.”

“I’ve already separated myself from the ‘norm’, so it doesn’t matter much to me. Do whatever makes you happy.”

“I mean life’s more exciting when things get a little bit weird.”

“I wouldn’t necessarily say weird, but definitely not normal.”

“Ah’m certain they’ll have a blast.” She assures, already looking forward to it. Plucking a piece of pear up and into her mouth, she nodded as she chewed. “It’s alright. I just know you cannae stand me and prefer the townsfolk. Ah’m not even sad ‘bout it.”

Wiping her fingers down on her skirt, she smiled at the dog before her attention returned to Toby. “Ah’m sure Carrick’ll love that. We can look up the gate an’ let ‘em run wild and free.” She placed a small bag between them, not even noticing the people that moved around them as she removed the sandwiches and fruit. “Oh, you know. It’s bustling with people but Ah managed to make a fair dollar or two which is the best Ah can ask for.”
