Using the IUCN Red List criteria, 18 species have been classified as critically endangered, 16 as endangered, 15 as vulnerable, three as near threatened and three as data deficient. Only four endemic plant species were classified as being of least concern.

Campylocentrum micranthum

Flower Colour and Size:

White. Natural spread 2mm.

Flowering Period:

October to May

General Description:

Epiphytic. Monopodial. Inflorescences are borne along the main stem and carry up to thirty small flowers.

Habitat:

Forested areas of North and Central Trinidad. Forest of Main Ridge, Tobago

Common Name:

Brassia caudata

Flower Colour and Size:

Sepals and petals creamy yellow to yellowish green sometimes with brown spotting. Lip similar in colour to sepals and petals. Natural spread up to 12cm.

Flowering Period:

October to April

General Description:

Epiphytic. Pseudobulbs stout bearing two or three leaves. Long arching inflorescence bears up to twelve flowers arranged in orderly manner on both sides of spike.

Habitat:

Valleys of the Northern Range of Trinidad, hills of the Central Range and forests of South Central Trinidad. Grows in deep shade in very humid conditions.

Common Name:

Brassia lanceana

Flower Colour and Size:

Sepals yellow-green. Petals yellow-green with mahogany barring at their bases. Lip yellow-green with mahogany spots. Natural spread 6cm.

May - September variable

General Description:

Epiphytic. Pseudobulbs oblong-cylindrical bearing one or two leaves. Arching inflorescence bears up to twelve flowers. Schultes page 234

Habitat:

One location adjacent to a stream near Easterfield, Tobago exposed to light to moderate breezes. Rainfall in this area is significant.

White. Natural spread 7cm.

General Description:

Epiphytic. Very tall, clustered terete leaves. Star shaped flower with long sepals and petals which are similar. Lip long with fimbriated egde with apical appendage about 4cm long. Inflorescence bears a solitary flower. Schultes page 143

Habitat:

Varying heights on tall trees on the coast of North Eastern and North Western Trinidad and offshore islands between the Chaguaramas Peninsula of Trinidad and the Paria Peninsula of Venezuela. Often thrives in harsh conditions of high winds and direct sunlight

Common Name:

Bifrenaria aurantiaca

Flower Colour and Size:

Sepals and petals golden yellow with brown spotting. Lip golden yellow. Natural spread 2.5cm.

General Description:

Epiphytic. Pseudobulbs flat, almost round each bearing one leaf. Leaves are green with brown spotting. Inflorescence arching with up to 13 flowers. Schultes page 188.

Habitat:

Has been found in one restricted area Found on the northern slope of the Northern Range of Trinidad. Grows on tall trees forming mats on horizontal branches twelve to fifteen metres off the ground.

Aspasia variegata

Flower Colour and Size:

Yellow-green sepals and petals with brown barring on sepals and brown striping on petals. Lip white with purple streaks. Natural spread 4.5 cm

General Description:

Epiphytic. Pseudobulbs flat, ellipsoid, with two long thin leaves at apex. Inflorescence usually bears four flowers opening sequentially. Schultes page 228.

Habitat:

Forest of South-Central Trinidad in deep shade with high humidity.

Xyris grisebachii Malme

Another endemic plant to Trinidad and Tobago. This time, it is Xyris grisebachii Malme or more commonly known (like it's cousins) as the Yellow-eyed Grass. It is only found in the Aripo Savannah according to sources. Information was easier to find than pictures. (All hyperlinks in tact if clarification is needed on any terms specified below)

Petals and sepals of uniform colour. Varies from light to dark brownish purple. Lip cream. Natural spread 5cm

General Description:

Dark green pseudobulbs bearing papery leaves. Drooping inflorescence bears up to seven flowers with an average of five.

Habitat:

Astronium obliquum Griseb.

Common name : Yohoe, Yoke

Confined to the hills in northern Trinidad, where it is known as Yoke. Yoke is a fairly large evergreen tree with a darkish scaly bark. Distribution and habitat. General. Endemic to Trinidad. Local. It appears to be found only in the west of the Northern Range
