Author’s Note: This series is set in an AU where Liam and Drake are in love with one another and there was never a conspiracy against Riley. 

NOTE: This is the final chapter of my year long labor of love.  Thank you to everyone who stuck with it from the beginning and to those who came in somewhere along the way and liked it enough to continue the journey.  This is really bittersweet for me.  I’ve loved writing their roller-coaster of a love story, but I think it’s time they all got their happy ending, don’t you?.

Drake wiped the sweat from his eyes with the back of his hand before bending down to hoist another bale of hay onto his shoulder.  The stallion in the stall next to him let out a resounding nicker and snorted as he pawed at the earth.

“Impatient fucker, aren’t ya?” His voice was gruff but his eyes were alight with affection as he swung open the half door and dropped the hay to the ground before securing the latch behind him, chuckling as he felt the stallion’s head push against his back.

“So we’re friends now, huh?  Drake turned around and rubbed the velvety skin of the horse’s muzzle. “Where was this attitude earlier today, huh? That little love tap you gave me is gonna leave a helluva bruise.”

“He’s come a long way, hasn’t he?”  

Drake looked up to find Liam leaning against the wooden barn door, watching him with a smile, “A few weeks ago he wouldn’t even let you into his stall.”

Drake nodded, still stroking Lucifer’s neck.  “We’ve come to an understanding, he and I.  I feed him, groom him, exercise him and cater to his every goddamn need 24 hours a day, seven days a week… and in return he’s stopped trying to murder me.”  He reached down to lift the edge of his T-shirt, exposing his bare torso. “He settles for maiming me instead.”

“Jesus Drake!” Liam winced as stepped closer to examine the mottled purple bruise across Drake’s rib cage “What the hell happened?”

“Just his way of telling me he wasn’t in the mood to have his hooves cleaned, that’s all.” The corner of Drake’s mouth pulled up in a rueful grin, “I must be slowing down in my old age.”

“I have to be honest…” Liam shot Lucifer a worried look, “I was afraid I’d made a terrible mistake when I brought him over for you.  You’d gone on and on about this amazing animal, yet somehow you neglected to mention what a nasty streak he has.”

Drake laughed. “Must’ve slipped my mind.”

Oh wow, all of this was just so perfect. Stubborn ass Drake becoming a doting father. Riley growing a pair and finally asking for what she needed to be truly happy. Sweet Liam finally getting the fairytale ending that he deserved. Then the Maxwell twist ... oh Riley, you’re both screwed!

Liam stood in the middle of his walk-in closet riddled with indecision.  

The pale blue linen shirt with french cuffs that he was holding in one hand seemed too formal for the occasion, but the long-sleeved polo he was holding in the other seemed too casual.  He chewed on his bottom lip as he looked around at the vast array of choices his wardrobe held.  At times like these he was envious of Drake’s collection of simple T-shirts and button downs.  

He was sure Drake never had these problems.

Pulling a dark green oxford off a hanger, Liam held it to his chest and immediately tossed it into the growing pile of discarded clothes on the floor.  

He didn’t even flinch when he heard his bedroom door fly open.  It could only be Drake, he was the only person that didn’t bother with the formality of knocking first before barging in.

“Li?”

“I’m here…in the closet.”

A moment later Liam looked up to see Drake’s reflection in the full length mirror, his signature smirk firmly in place.  

Liam shook his head, “Don’t even bother.  I heard it the second the words left my mouth.”

Drake laughed as he sprawled himself into the leather chair in the corner of the dressing room.

“I didn’t say a word.”

The entire scene while Liam was packing for NYC was so bittersweet, but what REALLY got me was the mention of the Statue of Liberty. I felt like my heart had been ripped from my chest. Then the whole proposal about getting Liam back in the game, and Drake having to swallow his feelings and go along with it ... so many emotions going on!

I loved this whole series so much @debramcg1106 ... but you know that based on my constant young Driam requests. It truly puts such a different spin on the TRR we all know, but it blends in with the storyline so seamlessly. Thank you for making me fall in love with these two as a couple and opening my eyes to their heartbreaking love story. Fabulously done as always, my talented friend. 💕

Colette turns down the alleyway on her way back to Nik"s house when she hears footsteps behind her.

“Nik, are you checking up- Ahhhh!” She screams as she whirls around to find some sort of creature that definitely isn’t Nik. It looks like a weird zombie/werewolf hybrid, and it is huge.

Colette starts to run, but it grabs her. She thinks this might be the end this time, but then the shape shifts and it releases her from its grasp. Her momentary relief turns to increasing terror when it emerges as the bloodwraith. She prays that someone will show up to save her, but then it reaches towards her and she closes her eyes and screams again, paralyzed by fear. Suddenly she feels like she’s falling and lands hard with a thud.

Yes! I stan Nik Ryder so hard!!! (that’s what she said). This was just so simple and pure, but beautifully showed both of their emotions. Wonderful!

“Yeah, looks great,” Jax murmurs, not even bothering to look up from the papers on the desk. Lexi had turned Lily’s bedroom into office after she moved to the Shadow Den. It had been nice for her and Jax to be able to spend more time together instead of being at their respective offices all the time, but sometimes it felt like Jax worked even more than he would otherwise.

I decided to take a brief venture back from my tumblr hiatus tonight to read a few choice fics. And DAAAAYYYMMMNNNN ... I picked a good one to start with.

I’ve long been convinced that our favorite scalpel jockey maintains his stellar physique with a strict CrossFit regimen, and since perhaps I myself have spent too much time ogling these fine masculine specimens at my local box (that’s what she said, @lizeboredom 😂), this fic (which turned out much longer than I meant it to) happened. I’m sorry, I had to do it … but I hope the vivid imagery will earn me your forgiveness.

The call had been made and Sasha’s plan was set into motion. One way or another, she was bringing down Shaw and his crew. What she hadn’t expected was how quickly the Brotherhood would be upon her. Sasha had already deftly evaded Jason and Detective Hester once, when she caused them to side swipe each other. She also managed to slow down Mona by bashing her fender into the former MPC member’s precious ride. Yet somehow, that didn’t stop them.

Colt stood there solemnly with his forehead pressed against Sydney’s, “I guess we should be getting you home.” His brain was telling his body to release its hold on her, but nothing was happening. He knew he had to let her go; let her choose her own path, but following through on that sentiment was proving to be much more difficult than he thought.

They finally pulled apart. The streetlight above them cast shadows over their faces intensifying the worry lines and teary eyes. This was too hard. A stabbing pain ripped through his chest as he intertwined his fingers with Sydney’s walking her back to Mona’s car.

Drake stood in front of the full length mirror studying his reflection critically.  The black suit, his new uniform, was simple enough at first glance, but it probably cost more than anything he’d ever owned in his life, his Jeep included.  It was perfectly tailored to fit his body, yet still concealed the sidearm holstered to his hip.  He tugged at the cuff of his crisp white shirt and ran his thumb over the shiny gold cufflink, emblazoned with the Cordonian Crest.  

This was really happening.

I got all teary-eyed during the Bastien/Drake scene. 😢 I’ve always loved their relationship and the pride Bastien feels for his surrogate son.

The scene with Olivia at the induction ceremony was priceless ... I was laughing at Olivia’s bluntness, but woah she and Drake have some serious sexual chemistry! But Drake's response to Livvy's prying at their exclusivity, saying he was “exclusively into Liam,” had me swooning. 💕

Present Day

Adriana couldn’t tell you the exact moment that her marriage began to fall apart. She and Liam had been wed for just a little over two years, but at some point during that time they both drifted apart. Sure, Adriana knew that her husband being the leader of a small country would mean there would be travel and times away from home. She just figured she’d be traveling with him on his excursions to meet with foreign dignitaries. Things started out as such, but eventually Adriana’s time abroad with Liam became less frequent. For the last six months, he began traveling with just a few members of the King’s Guard while she remained at the palace.
