Where is the authenticity in makeup?
Generic nude lipglosses, boring packaging, lack of diversity in shades….these things are sold to us in exchange for bullet holes through our wallets.
If I’m going to spend a huge amount of money on something, at least give me SOMETHING. Although I understand that some people prefer this aesthetic, I’m genuinely tired of how over saturated it has become in the makeup industry and how there’s not much authenticity.
To me, makeup isn’t just used as a beauty enhancer, it has been used as self expression for generations, passed down from one to another. The skin was seen as a canvas — bold and bright strokes across every valley on our face, accentuating each feature. Today, using bold colors are now seen as “doing too much”.
I understand wanting a natural, more airbrushed look, but calling a dash of concealer and bit of blush full makeup, is beyond me.
For the more minimalist girlies, if that’s your cup of tea, period. But the issue is judging people for “going all out” when all they’re simply doing is ART.
I’m waiting for the day I see cultures being integrated into makeup brands, because representation is key, not simplification.
