A few days later, Buck lets himself into Eddieâs house and finds a package on the dining table. Itâs addressed to Eddie and though he knows opening someone elseâs mail is a federal offence, or something, Buck reasons that the box is already open (the tape has been cut, at least) before he pulls the contents out. Expecting a dildo, or a butt plug, or even a new dog toy, Buck isnât sure what to make of the big, red button with the word ânoâ printed on its front. Curiosity brings him to press it, and he jumps when it tells him off.
âHasnât anyone ever told you not to open other peopleâs mail?â Eddie calls out as he rounds the corner. Buck pulls a face, and, in a stroke of genius, he hits the button in answer. Eddie rolls his eyes and takes it from Buck, placing it out of reach.
âWhatâs it for?â
âOur system.â
Buckâs face scrunches up. Their system? Oh, right. The pee system or, more correctly, the safe word system. Buck snorts. No isnât exactly the best safe word, but heâll give Eddie credit for buying the button in red, the more commonly recognised safe word. Eddie seems to be waiting for Buck to ask about it, glancing between the button and Buck, so Buck does.
âHow does it work?â
âWhen you want a break, or feel uncomfortable, you hit the button.â Eddie demonstrates as if Buck hasnât done it before. Like he might have forgotten how it works. Buck hums.
âLike Bunny the dog.â
Itâs Eddieâs turn for his face to scrunch up. He arches a brow and Buck delights in whipping his phone from his pocket, opening TikTok to show Eddie videos of the âtalkingâ dog.
âCreepy,â Eddie decides, shoving Buckâs phone away after four or five examples.
âInspiring,â Buck argues, reaching out to hit the button just for fun. âWhat if I donât want to fully stop though? Whereâs the âpauseâ button?â
Eddie didnât think of that, clearly, because his face is all twisted again.
âWe could get a TV remote,â Buck suggests, thinking of that one movie Chim had made him watch with the big remote and Adam Sandler. What is it called again? Clicking his fingers, Buck tries to remember. Eddieâs hand closes over his own and squeezes his fingers so they stop.
âYouâll chew it.â
Rude. No Buck wouldnât. Heâd only chewed the TV remote once and that was because Eddie had turned off his video. Buck was just trying to get it back. How else was he supposed to without hands? Eddieâs lips curve into a smirk. Bad example.
âAnother button then, like Bunny? You can even record your voice for me.â
âIâm not doing that, Buck.â
Boring. Buck pouts to try and get his way, only to scowl when Eddie reiterates his stance further and presses the ânoâ button.
