Tracking 1

I have really enjoyed this brief, even the public and their hunched “you cant see me” walks. It has taught me a valuable skill, one which i've been wanting to learn, for a while. It has taught me how to consider to use the position in tracking, light and shade in tracking, different angles, movement and rotoscoping with tracking. I will in future hope to use tracking in other briefs to add a new dimension to them and I will continue practising with tracking so I may achieve great results.

I decided to go with this copyfree music after. It really suites the ident giving it that happy go lucky shopping experience feel. It makes you want to go and shop!. It has the beat that helps push the ident along and transition the different scenes together, making them one. Its has that corporate shopping industry feel serious but fun. I really like it and enjoy searching out the right music to fit my briefs.

This was my first idea in colour correction, I decided to use curves and pull the tones down to create more shadow and darken the image. I thought it would make the items in the scene stand out. How wrong i was!. Although it made the text stand out more. It made the scenes look gloomy and dark like if its evening or had been raining, going against the idea of ‘All under one roof’. It just looks really fake. I think it looks worse, as it is a small narrow arcade as well. It may of worked in the open St Davids though. I then decided to pull the curves up and lighten the image instead (which i have shown before). It worked much better, giving a happy feel instead of a “my God i'm going to get mugged if i shop here!”

I have taken two scenes to test out this transition. I am happy with the white flash. It is cleaner and resembles a ad/ident transition, simple, subtle and appropriate. It also doesn't distract from the tracking involved. If anything, it matches the colour corrected background and makes the text stand out, as your eyes automatically respond to the white text that follows. I think i will therefore use this transition for my ident.

So above you can see i have tried the black flash. I like the transition, but not so much the black tone. Again its to harsh and it needs to be soft and subtle as it is a ident for a shopping arcade, not a horror promo. I don't want it to take over and distract from the typography tracking, which this does. It also makes the piece look disjointed with no flow, it's almost as hard as a ‘cut to’. I need to change the colour and see the result.

I’ve added noise to all of my linked scenes as it made it look more like video quality.

Now onto my final scene!

I will now go to scene 5. All scenes btw have been colour graded before and after I placed the text.

Now onto scene 4!

I asked today, about the tracking fonts and colour. It was explained to me that i need to do what feels right for me. I need to use my gut instinct!. I will stay with my chosen font and text colour at the moment, and if needed change any aspects like colour once the whole ident has been rotoscoped and tracked and the use of transitions are in place.

I have stood all the text up and staggered it. I have placed the Wallys sign in the window and the delicious tag facing horizontal in the scene. It works much better as it suits the vanishing point of the arcade. I will now proceed to speak with Jason about the font colour.

From adding all the text, i can see that the floor text still looks too flat and needs to stand up infront of the people walking in the background and behind the rotoscoped bush. Also the Wallys sign is too small and could be missed in the movement of the ident. I will also place the delicious sign horizontal.

Here, I have tracked my text onto a track marker so that it will stay in the same position as the scene continued. I found that having the text on the floor was too flat and didn’t have a 3D effect to it. I am going to carry on and place the other text in the same way to see the overall effect.

Here, I added a 3D Camera Tracker to the footage so that it will detect track markers for me to put text on them. I will be doing this for all of my scenes as it is part of the brief.

I will proceed to colour correct all my scenes and post them here.

 I tracked the what to buy on the track markers on the calendar so that when you pan up the title will slide onto the screen.

I have started to rotoscope my second scene as the first one does not need it. I firstly placed on the text then I duplicated the footage and proceeded to use a pen tool to outline the bush in every frame. I will repeat this process for every scene and add my research here.
