Summary:

Eddie has been hiding a family secret his whole life. But when that secret is revealed to Buck, by Christopher, during the tsunami, everything changes. OR: Mer!Eddie, secrets, and self-loathing

Snippets:

Growing up, he didn't have a lot of control over himself. Over his shifting. The slightest bit of salt water would do him in. Sometimes, it didn't even take that. A brush with illness or prolonged stress and he would produce a patch of scales down his thigh. 

His parents hated this about him. His father especially. They found it embarrassing. Like somehow Eddie was making a choice not to have self control. Like if he had just focused harder and had better resolve he would risk  revealing their family secret less. The Army had given him that resolve. You can practically dunk him in salt water now and he won't even flinch. He never shifts anymore, not if he doesn't have to. And when would he have to? He's a firefighter, not a rescue diver.

Eddie doesn't have to worry that he won't be able to do his job on a day where salt water has flooded the streets of Los Angeles.  He knows he'll be able to.  He's a professional;  his species doesn't get in the way of that.
