T O R N .

he fights the immediate urge to turn away  ,  dip chin against his own shoulder to shield himself from having to answer such a question  .  it’s completely embarrassing  .  rin almost allows the flustered feeling to take over and become defensive  -  wasn’t there some rule that forbid little sisters from bringing up romance to brothers  ?  if there wasn’t one  ...  there should be and it needed to be implemented sooner rather than later  .

there’s a guilt that eats at him at the thought of deflecting the question  ,  maybe this was something gou would have asked their father instead of him if given the chance  .  she couldn’t ask him  ,  perhaps he’s the next best thing  .

he’d made a promise long ago to step into their father’s shoes and be there for gou and their mom no matter what  ...  even if it was embarrassing  .

rin scrunches up nose tight as he sighs  ,  trying to ignore the heat pooling up high at cheeks and keep voice from trailing off in some fond tone  .  yes  ,  he’s a romantic fool deep down   ,  one who reads bad trashy novels and cries every single time someone mentions the titanic or the notebook  -----

still  ,  he doesn’t feel qualified to speak on love  .

❛     it hurts  .    ❜    rubbing awkwardly at the side of his neck  ,  he’s still not entirely sure it’s love he feels for sousuke just yet but rin is desperate to find out at some point  .  when did friendship tip over into the unknown  ?      ❛    it’s confusing  .    ❜    frustration leaking into tone as head tips back but there’s a small smile at mouth  -  reminiscing about that blooming fullness that fills chest everytime magenta meets teal  .  it’s cliché   ,  and he loves it  .

yellow eyes focus on the apple balanced precariously on his claws  ,  ryuk doesn’t need to remind her  ,  again  ,  that the book is hers to use however she wants  .  she’s hesitating  ,  and he’s bored  ,  except for the occasional apple she’ll toss his way to appease him  .  

maybe she’s not too terrible  .

how does she keep ending up in these situations  ?  somewhere during the past two years ann had become a beacon for trouble   -  almost makes her want to return to middle school where the worst issue was being outcasted and teased for her untraditional looks  .  at least there was silence back then   .  pen stops on notebook as she turns to give him a little scowl  .
