Bucky Barnes has been following Captain America since the 40’s, and he’s not about to stop now. When Steve first picked up the shield, Bucky hated it, because he had seen the war, saw the worst parts of it first hand and couldn’t bear the thought of his best friend seeing the same, but the world needed Captain America. So he did what he had to do, he got his hands dirty so Steve didn’t have to. And then he died. When he woke up, he fell back in line behind a changed Steve again, this time it was him who needed Captain America. For all they bitched, Bucky will never forget that Sam fought to get him back too. When it was him against the world, Sam was there too. He doesn’t remember dying the second time, not really, but he comes back and Sam is by his side again. He doesn’t even have to think about it when he places the plans in Falcon’s hands, because the world needed him. He isn’t surprised Steve wants to put down the shield, he’s a hero for the old world, but Sam, Sam is what the new one needs. Bucky Barnes has been by Captain America’s side his whole life, it’s where he belongs, and Sam Wilson IS Captain America.
