As much as I love the episode as is, I'll never stop being genuinely sad that the first part of "Many Happy Returns" didn't take the PTSD-centered horror route that it does in the original script. This was because they would have had to rebuild some of the interior sets, which I get and everything, but imagine how good these scenes of Number Six exploring the seemingly abandoned hospital could have been (especially the conditioned rats!):

Sometimes I just want someone to look at me and go "she can make even the act of putting on her dressing gown appear as a gesture of defiance!" in a mixture of awe/fascination/contempt, because honestly I feel like my generalised misanthropy and hatred of mornings really isn't appreciated enough by the human race.

It’s concerning to me how there seems to be many people who take away the message that The Prisoner (1967) is a tale about the virtues of rugged individualism. While it’s true that Six’s entire story centers around his battle to retain his individuality and autonomy, that’s exactly WHY he’s miserable and paranoid all the time. He’s wary of the Villagers because he’s been conditioned to distrust them after countless deceptions, and even then he still helps/accompanies them in some ways and makes the occasional effort to form alliances with people. His whole initiative as a person is to Protect Other People, which is something he can’t do if his own mind/morals are compromised. His resignation from Village life is how he resists assimilation, but it also puts an incredible strain on him psychologically.
