above all else, i am a nature lover, respecter, and mother nature worshiper. nature is at the core of my practice and the trees are my temples. some would call me a ‘ green witch ’ and i don’t denounce that label, but it’s not a core box i fit - as it also feels wiccanate. i tend to call myself a nature veneration-ist instead.

eclectic online spaces hold a lot of UPG and overall a lack of deep research (which is not bad, but it can be damaging to new partitioners) so i tend to mutual / reblog / follow people who have humility around their practice and always leave room for growth and understanding in historical research. this is a personal preference, pop culture-based paganism and new age rituals are just not my cup of tea!

my ancestry and ethnicity is primarily irish and english. all of my folk practices and rituals reside in celtic reconstructionist beliefs of practice. my eclectic status as a practitioner refers to my wide range of practices; however, my rituals and core beliefs fall in the celtic pantheon.

i am a polytheist and take appreciation and respect to every pantheon of practice. this does not mean i worship or engage with every pantheon as i believe pagans and witches should work with pantheons they connect to, but spirits and gods alike are real beings worthy of respect and honor.

1) for pagans who want to learn to enjoy nature more <3

- lazy gazing: sit on your porch, step outside your front door, look out a window, etc. let your eyes wander; trees, clouds, birds, etc. don’t force meaning or depth.

- ambient nature sounds: put on nature sounds (rain, waves, forest) while you work, clean, or game. you don’t need to “pay attention,” your brain will passively get cozy.

- scent anchoring: use essential oils (safe ones pls lol), herbs, or candles with natural or earthy scents while doing something else. great for grounding and for nature association.

2) for pagans who are just starting nature practices <3

- familiarity before love: don’t try to feel ‘awe.’ focus on noticing what’s already there. the weeds growing in the sidewalk? nature. the wasps nest annoyingly built by your mailbox? nature. rain hitting a windshield? also nature!

- use your sense casually: smell your tea and think ‘this is a plant.’ feel the warmth of the sun through your window and think, ‘this is the same sun the gods knew.’

- treat nature like a low-energy friend and hang out with it passively! you’re letting the relationship grow without pressure.

3) for pagans who are nature-based witches <3

- passive offerings: drop your apple core intro the grass; pour your coffee grounds into the earth. let reciprocity become a background habit.

- let seasons wash over you: instead of formally celebrating sabbats or moon cycles when fatigued, just notice how your body feels in the season. tired? cozy? stretched? let your internal clock guide you.

- elemental body scan: when washing your face, feeling the wind, or walking on the earth, take 10 - 30 seconds to acknowledge the element touching you. let the element speak to your skin and your body. breatheee!

- when i think of the word ‘outside,’ what does my body feel like? tense? curious? meh?

- if nature was a playlist, what vibe would today’s track(s) be?

- what part of nature do i currently find annoying, inconvenient, or overrated?

- if i was a tourist in my own yard, what would i notice first?

i hope this guide helps people and gives some good low effort tips and ideas !!! i’ve always struggled with my mental health in the practice and think it’s really important we make the practice as accessible as possible!!! reblogs and love is always appreciated !!!

small disclaimer: i’ve been in my practice for 5 years so there are definitely elder witches and pagans on here that can also give a tonnnn of information and more wisdom for in your practice! so keep in mind that i am but a youngen. . .

1) READDDD READDD AND KEEP READING!!!

resources for eclectic paganism are fortunately very available and can easily be ‘borrowed’ via internet archive or online pdfs if you can’t afford the physical book. here are some recommendations for brand new pagans: (these have very sparse or no wiccan influence! and i’ve read them all myself!)

- paganism: an introduction to earth centered religions (joyce / river higginbotham)

- pagan spirituality (same authors as above)

- paganism for beginners: the complete guide to nature-based spirituality for every new seeker (althaea sebastani)

i’d say these are the most basic and introductory books to the path and explain many different paths and types of practices under the pagan umbrella. from here it could help narrow down if you want to work with a certain pantheon / god / realm of practice / etc.

2) let yourself make mistakes and do not feel discouraged in making them.

mistakes lead to more knowledge and wisdom, and humility is essential in practice! mistakes in rituals and deity work tend to be what’s commonly talked about from new practitioners — but i promise you that no pagan has come out the oven freshly baked; we are all still learning!!!

in relation, forgetting to follow through with something or being inconsistent in practice is not a ‘mistake’ in my eyes. plus, it’s common! most people don’t have time to dedicate 24/7 to a religion, period!

3) journaling and meditation are crucial!!!

most people online skip over how important this is. journaling with curiosity about your practice, how you feel about religion and spirituality, and how you connect with nature and the cycles of life are all important questions to ponder and reflect on!

because i do so much tarot i meditate literally twice a day or else my mind will be a cluttered mess for readings… plus it also just helps clear your mind and center yourself.

here are some simple prompts if you don’t know where to start:

- what does ‘pagan’ mean to me right now?

- what does ‘sacred’ mean to me? what do i view as sacred? where do i feel it?

- do i believe the sun, moon, earth or stars have energies? do i think everyday things have energies? why or why not?

- how do i want my pagan path to make me feel?

4) forget the aesthetics — that’s all it is!

yes, a pagan practice can be pretty and it often is! awe and shock at the beauty in your life and in nature is common, but those seemingly perfectly dusted and cleaned altars are just for the show i fear.

let your practice grow from genuine connection to the things around you and the things inside of you. you don’t need to blow a bunch of money on tools or a big altar; you need your senses and your drive for knowledge above all else:

i’m currently working on a large post for free / extremely cheap witchcraft tips because this drives me up the wall.

being low on time, effort, and energy does NOT make you a bad witch or pagan. it makes you human.

i love english mythos and praying with and for my ancestors from ireland — but i guess i just feel like it’s not enough ?? that i should be devoting more time or effort to hone in on one thing ?? i know these doubts are common when you practice in an online space but !!! i still have them !!! ugh !!!
