i think the films actually do a better job of portraying the relationship as what it is (grooming) than the book, largely because as films they are externalized rather than narrated by bella. its extremely obvious how in love meyer is with both her characters, especially edward, and clearly it was not written to be what it is (grooming). comes through anyway if you read it in a certain light. compelling.
