Hi! I saw your Hunger Games post, and I don't remember the amputation at all. I read the books so long ago though that I probably forgot about it. Do you have images/quotes of the lead up to the amputation, and the amputation itself? Thanks!
When they televise Katniss and Peeta seeing each other for the first time, in the books, she runs into his arms and he stumbles. Then she finds out for the first time that he has an prosthetic leg, because the mutt wolf slashed him so badly and his tourniquet was removed when they froze him to the ladder, and he almost died.
They reference it many times in the second book, as a hinderance to his travel through the jungle underbrush. It is why he is the first to collapse when the acid fog hits, because he doesn’t have great control over it yet and he keeps stumbling. Katniss asks him to step where she steps and he gets slightly better, but he is still struggling.
It is well documented in the novels, and nowhere to be seen in the movies. It is blatant disability erasure. We get so little representation in media, and one great instance of disability representation was taken from us.
Peeta accomplishes everything he did after book one: the districts tour, the second Hunger Games, the overcoming violent mental and physical torture, the hijacking, all as a disabled man.
I would betray all of you in the Hunger GamesÂ

“The Career Tributes naturally get in the eight-to-ten range. Most of the other players average a five. Surprisingly, little Rue comes up with a seven.”

Rue gets just under what the Careers who trained all their lives for the Games get.Â

Peeta gets an eight. I don’t know why that bothers me so much! But it does!

Peeta Mellark: I think we have PTSD.
Katniss Everdeen: Yeah, probably.
Peeta Mellark: What do we do with that information?
Katniss Everdeen: What do you do with any information? You just stuff it deep down inside and keep an eye on it.
Katniss Everdeen: I’m putting my foot down. It’s either going to be the cat or me.
Primrose Everdeen: Okay, I choose the cat.
