They shone flashlights in his face regularly while he tried to sleep.One day, he sharpened his toothbrush in protest against what he considered unreasonable treatment and, consequently, had to sleep in his underwear on the concrete floor.He was frequently mocked and threatened with death, but as the weeks passed, the guards gradually recognized him as a contaminated human being, rather than a museum specimen, and occasionally small signs of brilliance emerged.
