husk, reeling from a near-miss with alastor, finds himself with an image problem. everyone knows he almost lost everything to the radio demon, and its got people thinking he's an easy target. he's losing paying customers to the gossip, valuable souls to the turf wars—and that's before the vees start messing with his territory, trashing his good name all over social media. husk needs a win. basically. and here comes val, walking into husk's casino like he owns the place. val, who's just arrogant enough to think he can win a game against the gambling demon. val, who's just stupid enough to bet angel's soul in the process.

and look. husk has an image problem, angel doesn't typically go out for all the overlord politics bullshit but even he understands that. and angel. all angel has is his image. his fame. and it's good to possess something his new boss needs. even if it's not what he was expecting. husk may not want to fuck him, but he sure as hell needs people to think he is.
