Lately, I’ve been wondering what the word friendship truly means.  I used to think it was enjoying someone’s company and earnestly wanting that person into your life.  I still believe that, and I still strive for that.

What I’m beginning to see is that most of the world hides behind a facade of what friendship looks like to them (or how they want to display it). 

If I can read your heart, you’re my friend.  As childish as that sounds, that’s all I need. If I know who you are, on good and bad days... you’re my friend, because I’ll always know that every word you speak and every moment we have is authentic.

Anyway, I keep picturing all these little kids playing some game in this big field of rye and all. Thousands of little kids, and nobody's around - nobody big, I mean - except me. Then here's a tidbit you probably already know about me.  I only friend people with good hearts.

And I don't mean that in a cheesy sense.  While mulling the ideas of friendship, I've realized that I am probably going to be friends and remain friends with people who share my core values: loyalty, kindness, humbleness, and compassion.

While I may be quite curt in my assessment of others, the fact remains that I am always willingly to give people second chances and try to understand where they're coming from. I never can and never will understand people who let their pretensions create boundaries.  I'm not dismissive is what it is and I value people who find it in their hearts to always reconsider things.

I believe to each his own, and that one may have "bragging rights," but I think those rights are to be reserved.  There's a very thin line between confidence and conceit.  I'd like to think that the people I have in my life are confident and that's what makes them people I admire. They do things and explore the world around them with an innate knowledge of their own skills and knowledge.  I think it's always important to be aware of your value, but I think that too many people fall in the folly of conceit. 

Lastly, loyalty because I pinned compassion and kindness together. The people I hold close to my heart have good hearts and are willing to stick a leg, neck and arm out for someone else.  There's not many people in this world that can say the same.
