Bangkok Restaurant Recommendation
I got a few friends asking for restaurant recommendation for their first trip to Bangkok. As I am writing for them anyway so let me put it here too. I group them in different groups, depending on what type of tourist you want to be. :)
First, restaurants with good Thai food and foreigner-friendly service.
Saladaeng Café
Run by Jim Thompson, Saladaeng Cafe has good Thai food in contemporary Thai atmosphere. It is in walking distance from MRT Silom station & BTS Saladaeng station but I recommend to have the map with you as it is not very easy to find.
Taling Pling
The link above is for original location on Silom road. It also has branches in department stores for easy access. It offers traditional Thai cuisine together with in-house creation not finding anywhere else. Taling Pling is a plant name, by the way. :P
Rosabieng
Rosabieng is Thai word for (train's) dining car. It's located in Soi Sukhumvit 11, walking distance from BTS Nana station. It serves variety of Thai food with indoor & outdoor seating.
Second, the local famous. These are few hidden gems that popular among locals but not much information available in English.
Kai Tod Jay Kee (Soi Polo Fried Chicken)
Probably the most famous fried chicken in Bangkok (sorry Colonel Sanders), Jay Kee fried her chicken at one and only shop in Soi Polo on Wireless road.
Joke Samyan
Joke is Thai word for congee. It’s usually served as breakfast but this most-well-known Joke restaurant also open (& most of the time full) in the evening! Take home option available too. The nearest train station is MRT Samyan station.
PS: If you can read Japanese, check out this page.
MK Restaurants
This famous Thai style sukiyaki restaurant can be found at most department store throughout Thailand. There is no English website but I am sure you won’t have any problem finding one, just check out directory of department stores or shopping malls near you. It also serves roasted duck, noodles and dim sum. If you are lucky, you will be welcome with an exercise dance by all the waiters.
Finally, if you wallet is deep enough to splurge and looking for a spectacular night view of Bangkok (from 60+ floors above!). Try one of these two.
Vertigo at Banyan Tree
Located on 61st floor of Banyan Tree Bangkok. Vertigo offers a spectacular view of Bangkok. You have choices of both a-la-carte and course menu.
Sirocco at Le Bua
Located on the 63rd floor of Le Bua at State Tower, Sirocco offers Mediterranean cuisine
Reservation is recommended and dress code is applied for both (check their websites). Also, it’s wise to check weather forecast in advance. :)
Enjoy eating in Bangkok!

Mariage Frères's Thé Des Maharajahs
- Nice citrus aroma and vanilla flavor, can be made hot or ice. My favorite tea this summer!
My Favorite Beef Restaurants in Kobe
Kobe is famous for its beef. Here are a few of my favorites.
My Favorite Kobe Beef (神戸ビーフ) Restaurant
"Beef Steak Kawamura (ビフテキのカワムラ)"
There are many (actually a lot of) restaurant that serve Kobe Beef in Kobe. I have tried a only a few because it is so expensive. This one is my favorite as its provide the best value (reasonable price with good quality). The price here starts at 7000 yen for black cattle and 12000 yen for A grade Kobe Beef.
My Favorite Yakiniku Restaurant
"Tajimaya (たじま屋)"
If you don't want to spend that much for a good beef, try this one. It costs around 2000 - 3000 yen for a meal (unless you are heavy drinker), 100% of the friends I brought here like it. Tajimaya has few branches in Kobe. Here are links to a few of them.
China Town branch - Convenient location but quite small so advance reservation is a must.
Motoyama branch - The least smoky among all Tajamaya branches I have tried. Advance reservation is recommended, especially Fri & Sat evening.
Whatever branch you go, don't miss to order Tajimaya-don (its signature rice dish).
My favorite Teppanyaki Restaurant
"ZEN"
Sit at the counter so that you can see the chef cooks in front of you. Not only beef but their grilled seafood is good too so no problem at all to bring along friends that do not eat beef.
Hope you like them and feel free to share your favorites here too!
