The writers that stepped in after a great deal of the original devs jumped ship mid-way through making F3 made this ass-backwards decision! Dene said specifically that his idea for Reaver post F2 was a traveling sellsword! An adventurer! Because selfish and hedonistic as he is, his heart is in adventuring - that's why he became pirate king and continued to own and command ships, why he chose to go to Samarkand after F2, why his main residence is in Bloodstone despite him easily being able to afford homes in any number of better cities.

Reaver was meant to be an adventurer, and more importantly yet, a very rare middle-of-the-road character! And they took this charming swashbuckler that, despite being vain and trigger-happy, was written for us to understand as complex and possibly redeemable, and made him an unscrupulous capitalist, exploiter of children, women and the impoverished in general, a rabid colonialist and human trafficker (the sand furies are human! the sand furies are humans!! the game never touches on this but you read up on them AND THEY ARE NATIVES OF THE AURORAN CONTINENT),

and took his status as one of the first openly queer and polyamorous characters in gaming and made a mockery of it by implying he's a zoophile, calling him a deviant and defacing posters of his likeness with exaggerated "drag" makeup

maybe it's the american in me, but every time I've encountered a parent of a sports player, they carry this deep pride and entitlement?

not even in a malicious way, just like "my son brayden single handedly carried this school to the state championship. he has a 3.8 GPA. he hasn't gotten a cold since the 2nd grade. my son is built different than everyone else, and yes I will be buying him a RAM for his 15th birthday", y'know? Getting really enthusiastic over this little person you adore, to the point it clouds some humility.

But yeah no back on topic, I really only picture Sparrow seeing Logan and the HoBW as their absolute pride and joys, God forbid anybody say different. This makes sense to me, bc only being spoiled and slightly entitled in your upbringing would give Logan that attitude. I'm sure the personal issues and tyranny doesn't help, but no one with a humble upbringing faces a crisis and immediately goes "I am the only one in the country willing and capable of handling this. No one else can tell me what to do ever"

Similar thought with the HoBW. No disrespect to Walter and Jasper, but yeah no those are basically their coaches who also believe they're the most special and perfect thing on the planet. Sparrow was a prideful bastard, I know this in my heart, and that pride was infectious. Warranted, tbf, but putting all your worth into your heroic talents kind of passes the "power = worth" complex onto your kids. Not by intent, but still.

Concerning the royal heirs.

Sparrow could never really let go of being a living weapon, even after Theresa took the Spire, so they just kind of kept to the hard life of Herodom. After losing their first family to Lucien they didn't plan on having another, but eventually Logan and Rose just sort of happened; it was before Rose's birth that Theresa decided to show Sparrow the future, and even knowing they were damning their children to the same fate they had to endure, Sparrow just... accepted that.

Logan, crowned at 14 while the kingdom was still fresh and unstable, rejected Walter's care, never really grew out of his traumatized tween orphan mindframe: The war room is no place for a child.
