Earlier in the year I made an album that I wasn’t meant to… Truth be told I’ve been on the road so much I was getting ready to take a break and head back down under for some rest. But one morning I picked up my guitar and a song poured out. I never want to do respect the universe by ignoring creativity when it strikes so I kept going… I didn’t realise how much I needed to write it until it was done but the new record is called “last night you said you missed me... For some it’s just music but for me this album has meant so much more. It’s been about not hiding myself so much, it’s been about taking that heart on my sleeve and waving it in the air, it’s been about planting my flag and manifesting where I want to be. It’s hard to explain to someone that you feel lonely when you’re on a busy street, in the middle of a party, while you’re laughing at a joke and you’re smiling cheek to cheek. But that’s exactly where I drifted to for a long time. It’s damn near impossible to explain to someone the feeling and even more so to strangers in a foreign city while you’re trying to make friends. I couldn’t drown out this lead-heavy feeling weighing me down. Keeping busy didn’t help, soaking up a crowd didn’t help, having fun didn’t help. It wasn’t until I realised I wasn’t lonely from a lack of people, I was lonely from a lack of connection. Try to fill it with what you may it’s never the same as the warm love of an old friend and that feeling doesn’t just appear one day. It comes with time… even if it’s lonely. The mind is beautiful place but it becomes quite precarious if led by some old memories and the way things were. A while ago that’s where I found myself. In a foreign country, spending too much time by myself and over analysing every microscopic piece of communication I did have with anyone. I still fall into that trap sometimes. Worrying too much about others and losing myself in it all.
