When you put it like that, it really makes sense why Amon ended up hiding in Lumian's dream with the Sun uniqueness after coi's end ... considering its properties, can keeping it close be considered a form of self-harm? (Please, throw it out, please please) (i am half sure grisha' resurrection from this thing by design would leave amon dead or worse just like his other siblings; only half because Grisha might think it more handy to keep Amon alive)
(Sometimes it is very easy to oversteemate how 'good' of a person Klein ever was and understeemate how much and how quick he internalized the power hierarchy ... hm, I remember you mentioning that your take on monklein had it shift to a less toxic version over time, can you please provide more of your opinion?)
the worst thing about them keeping the uniqueness is that it’s the complete opposite of their thought process. by keeping this thing with them, they’re actively putting themself at risk of contamination (from the emergence of PGA’s will through it alongside grisha’s, from it drawing the attention of outer gods who might want to use it to disrupt the fragile balance of the earth after the apocalypse), and they literally have no way of handling it. the most logical option would be to hand it over to klein, who has authorities over sealing, and would appreciate having another way to suppress CW’s will inside of him. they gain absolutely nothing by keeping it with them; this active self-endangerment is purely because they love grisha enough to ignore their own common sense, to risk their life waiting on him to revive. and it’s awful, because when he comes back he’ll have even less humanity than last time (through erosion) so he’ll give even less of shit about them than he already does! and they’ll still help him!!!!!!
as for klein.. it’s not that he’s a bad person. he’s just the ‘average’ person who is ultimately beholden to the privileges he was born with as zmr and then as klein— he’s a cisgendered middle-class male, who is always in the racial majority. no matter how oppressive the system becomes, it’s always meant to seem attractive to his demographic specifically, whether that be the endless corporate ladder or the advancement of sequence pathways. furthermore, he never actually had to question nor deconstruct anything societally— he immediately adapts to the circumstances in order to have the smoothest way ‘home,’ which made it so that by the time he found out ‘home’ no longer existed, that mindset had eaten into him and had then been validated by his advancement in the system.
a lot of people tend to think that guys like zmr are ‘good,’ insofar as they aren’t visibly prejudiced and are narratively presented as ‘ineffectual’ (as in they in their position have no power over the larger system or those above him in it), which is why the twist in COI caught them so offguard. “Why would Klein agree to this?!” “No, isn’t his whole story about humanity not losing against divinity?!” but it wasn’t— it was about the tragedy of mistaking power for agency, and how that can make you actively contribute to perpetuating the hierarchal system rhat resulted in that false belief in the first place.
monkemon…. when we first thought of the dynamic we posted about last year, it was mostly based in the idea that klein ‘deserves’ to hurt amon. that it was a form of atonement for him to hurt them, and they agreed to it because it was in their nature to given their respective positions. even here, we established that amon prefers an unequal dynamic: they are the inferior who is subjugated by klein, the superior. there’s also an element of routine to it— amon’s bored by this, but because they’re unable to step out of the familiarity provided by this dynamic, they stay in it.
nowadays we prefer softer relationships whenever we can, mostly due to the fact that the world is getting so much worse for trans plural systems and if we have to go through vaguely incestous toxic relationships in real life AND in the funny fictional ships then we’d die :) halfjokes aside, we were made pretty uncomfortable with that previous dynamic after finishing COI. by the end of it, monkemon had turned so weirdly emotionally incestous that we just discarded the dynamic entirely and chose to exclusively ship them in a post-fixit-healing AU instead….
