Clay.io is a platform for games that can be played on any device.

There's a simple game such as Word Wars that Clay.io has built.

Clay.io offers a marketplace that works on any device to help developers deploy games on any device with an API that powers features such as user accounts, leaderboards, etc... for games.

Solid business model that has worked for games and other operating systems. Since HTML5 trumps all of these individual OS's, guess what? Clay.io could potentially be HUGE.

GiraffeStand participated in the high school startup initiative that spun out of 3 Day Startup.

GiraffeStand relieves your arm's pain when you're surfing the web in bed. It is a headboard  attachment that holds your iPad up for you. 

Their goal is to fund a minimum of 50 gjraffestands to not only get early backers an awesome product but to also go through the experience of going to manufacturing with an actual product all at the ripe old age of under 18 yrs.

GiraffeStand learned that Macy's kicks you out if you try to test your product on their headboards.

Great initiative that's still figuring things out. There will be 11 teams presenting tonight in which I will cover all.

Hopefully this class will have some teams raise some seed funding.

Since no one covers startups effectively here in Austin, I'm going to take it upon myself to start covering young startups.

Strategically speaking, Dell would be a great acquisition for Samsung. Here are some reasons why:

1. Samsung has a presence in Austin (manufacturing) 2. Their offices are literally down the street from each other 3. Samsung is all about manufacturing electronics, but it doesn't have much of an enterprise presence. Dell's enterprise division does relatively well whereas its consumer division is faltering. Samsung could sweep up everything to bolster its consumer division but mainly blow up its enterprise offering. 

Dell is in the shts. Employees at Dell don't know who's next in line and are simply waiting their turn. This is horrible and as Dell makes a transition into services, it is going to go through a rough time. 

honestly, i'm not excited at all for the surface tablets. (as a consumer)

it's too expensive ( at least the projected prices) and has actually too MUCH functionality. ppl use tablets for easy content consumption.

we're in a world that is leaning towards simple devices.

ie: I bought a $179 kindle paperwhite just for dedicated reading

when i could've spend $20 more for a Nexus 7

and again, at the $800+ price points, no consumer in their right mind is going to buy a surface vs an iPad w/ retina

maybe. and only MAYBE will enterprise customers go for the surfaces, but that's only AFTER the new windows 8 interface goes through a lot of usage/usability tests.
