In honor of Mockingjay Part 2 coming out, I’m so excited to share my new song based on Peeta and Katniss called “Gone!”
"We're pieces in a game that I do not intend to lose."

More than anything, I just cannot believe that the final trailer for The Hunger Games franchise “premieres” tomorrow. Like… this is it. This is the end. I can remember all the way back to 2011, having butterflies in my stomach while I waited for the Hunger Games teaser trailer to premiere at the VMAs. From then until now… what a ride it has been.
The Hanging Tree by Jennifer Lawrence

Comparing The Hunger Games to our world has never been much of a stretch. Though emphasized by the dystopic premise, everything hits too close to home: a severe disparity between the upper and lower class, poverty-stricken families driven to desperate measures, deeply harmful policies and practices from a corrupt government. The list goes on.
As we continue to see the story of Ferguson, Missouri unfold, the parallels are impossible to ignore. In the first Hunger Games film, we see District 11’s heartbreaking reaction to a young tribute’s death. The media frames their mourning as mindless rioting. The Capitol reacts with unchecked violence and cruelty.
These things shouldn’t feel familiar. But they do.
This is not the first time dystopia has proven to be more than just a genre. Stories like these span continents and centuries. But with another Hunger Games film about to make its box office debut, we have an incredible opportunity to honor that suffering and change the narrative.
The Odds In Our Favor campaign seeks to do just that. While the media welcomes the new film with gossip and glamorization, help keep the spotlight where it’s needed most. Take back the narrative by sharing your Hunger Games story and joining the #MyHungerGames movement.
Anyone who followed #FergusonOctober might have seen the protestors' #TheyThinkThisIsAGame demonstration.
Well, check out Mockingjay Part I soundtrack song, "This is Not A Game".
It's as if Ferguson echoed Hunger Games warnings, and Hunger Games answered back.

“Basically I wrote the song specifically for the movie, it wasn’t something that I had a draft of previously. I reread the books, and I just wanted to tap into everything that Katniss is feeling in that film and what’s the crazy stuff that goes on. One of the things that happened in the book which to me felt like this crazy turning point was her best friend Peeta tries to kill her, he’s been brainwashed and tries to strangle her. It just felt like something so irreparable and something that the characters couldn’t turn back from. I felt like Katniss was like ‘okay, I’m taking names. I’m coming for blood. You don’t do these types of things to my friends and family and get away with it.’ I just wanted to make something kind of dark and haunting.”

The score features an a capella piece performed by Jennifer Lawrence. The melody was written by The Lumineers.
In the film, The Hanging Tree starts as an a capella performance by Katniss (Jen Lawrence). She is joined first by birds (Mockingjays), then groups of rebels as the song morphs more into score. James adds choir and orchestra and it builds to an amazing crescendo with an enormous action shot. It’s a huge musical moment on the film. It also appears as second end title spot, after Yellow Flicker Beat.”
