Relationship: When Shane was in fifth grade he was best friend with a girl named Brenda Fenison. Brenda would share abuse stories with Shane that she endured at home by her father. Only being a kid at the time, Shane didn’t know what to do except be there for her. He’d offer to let her sleep over and he’d advice her to tell an adult, but she always declined. As years went by, the two drifted apart. By Junior year, when Shane moved to Greensville, they didn’t even talk anymore. It was like they were complete strangers. Senior year, Brenda contacted Shane. She had come forward to the authorities about the abuse. She needed Shane to testify to what he remembered the about that time. Since then, the two have rekindled their friendship. They’re dating now.
Occupation: Shane’s career goal was always to be a broadway actor. It was what he always worked towards. He spent hours in dance, singing, and acting lessons. Unfortunately, it hasn’t worked out for Shane. He still dreams of being a broadway actor. He hasn’t done much acting since 2015, though. It make him incredibly sad, but maybe one day he’ll get back into it. He works in a small theater group for kids in Alabama. Last year, he helped direct Mulan. It’s not where he saw himself, but at least he’s still close to the theater. His parents aren’t happy about it, that’s for sure.
Bowtie: Ever since Shane’s grandmother gave away one of Shane’s favorite bow ties, which had bow ties printed on it, he’s been on the hunt for it. It was a very important bow tie because it had been given to him by someone very important to him. He’s low-key still mad at his grandmother for giving it away, but he knows she didn’t know how important it was to him. He visits thrift shops, whenever he goes to Greenville, in the hopes of finding the bowtie one day. It’s that meaningful.
