The amulet is a previous era where fae and mortal creatures didn’t get along as much as they do now. It is made of cold iron and enchanted to protect the wearer from certain fae charms. You wonder why the mage had it. Was it because whatever is causing the swamp to turn into a desert is a fae? If so, why did the mage leave it instead of taking it wherever they went? Or is it unrelated?

You’re curious and there’s reward money, so you decide to take the quest. However, the Southpass road has tolls, so you’ll need to earn a bit of pocket money before leaving. You choose to…

You end up finding a man who has recently come to town by the Southpass road. He said that 3 days travel South East there have been some issues in his normally peaceful town. The swamp the town is based near has inexplicably turned into a dry barren dessert. A local, well respected, mage had tried to investigate and had gone missing. The only thing they left behind was a strange looking amulet that no one could decipher. He’d brought it with him to this town because it was the closest hot spot for sorcerers and mages to gather. A: Cast an enchantment that help identify charms.

B: Study the markings. You think you recognize it.

It’s finally time for your first independent quest! The first thing you’ll need to do is go find yourself a quest. The best place is the local tavern where the quest board is. However, this time you’re not going to looking for random little quests on the board, you’re going to be looking for travelers who may have a quest for you. How will you present yourself?

A: Be friendly and talk to anyone who looks like a traveler and try to slip in that you’re looking for quests.

B: Look tough and wait for someone to approach you.

You have proven yourself in your training and your guided quests. Now you are officially a full adventurer. Congratulations! This means that you can now go on independent quests. You will start with a small monthly quest-line which will end up deciding your final boss which you will work to defeat for the rest of the year. There will be 20 days of decisions which will decide your word count depending on what you choose. Keep track of your choices! Those choices will be what decides what major questline you will be on for the rest of the year.

You get 2 skill points for whatever you write in every day.

There is a long term equipment lock for this month. Until you finish all prompts, you will be under an equipment lock.

Trainer Ada Quest Line: Join the Troll Killing Quest

Choice A: The troll... doesn't put you down. But! It does hesitate long enough for the rest of the party to charge at it. Your team manages to defeat the troll thanks to you!(?)

Choice B: There's a deafening crack and suddenly the hand holding your ankle freezes and turns to stone. That does mean your stuck for a bit, but the rest of your party manages to get you out eventually. Then you all work on making sure the troll is gone permanently.

Trainer Lenny Quest Line: Siren Treaty Negotiations

Choice A: The leader goes to protest, but another more senior group member seems to understand what you're doing and pulls her gently away. The second in command (who is a lot less soaked) steps forward to continue the negotiations. The siren actually looks disappointed by the lack of a reaction. They turn away from the group and disappear back into the water. To your surprise, a different group of sirens appears a few minutes later much more ready to negotiate. Was the first siren even supposed to be there?

Choice B: The siren tilts it's head looking amused. They'll be with you in a moment, they said before sinking into the water. To your surprise, a different group of sirens appears a few minutes later much more ready to negotiate. You think you can still can sense the first siren's presence.

Trainer Ahmad Quest Line: Potion Lab Investigation

Choice A: Your suspect seems to wither under your laughter and even more under your threats. As expected, they fold like wet tissue paper and you take them to the potion labs to admit to their crimes.

Choice B: Your suspect falls asleep immediately not putting up even a token of defense. You drag them back to the potions lab and explain everything they did and your evidence. You don't expect to see them again anytime soon.

Trainer Mei Quest Line: Contain a Baby Kraken

Choice A: You and your shift partner manage to keep the Kraken contained until help arrives in the form of Trainer Mei. She shoots off a complicated spell that has the Kraken retreating. She commends you for your efforts but she won't be putting any more trainees on this job.

Oh no! The troll got it’s hands on you and you’re currently being flung through the air by your ankle. What do you do?

Choice A: Say “Put me down now!” very firmly

Choice B: Shoot off an old curse you remember reading in your book last night.

Trainer Lenny Quest Line: Siren Treaty Negotiations

Description: The projectiles turn out to just be water shaped into knife like forms. When they hit the ground, a person, or a shield, the dissipate without any harm done. Some members of your party do get wet however. The leader doesn’t seem particularly happy about this considering they got hit by the most of the water projectiles and is now soaked. That expression does not look good for negotiation, so you decide to step in before she can open her mouth and anger the siren again.

Choices:

A: You decide to gently suggest another (less soaked) member of the party takes point.

B: You ask the siren where the other siren council members are.

Trainer Ahmad Quest Line: Potion Lab Investigation

Description: The suspect did not take your suspicions well and start to threaten you. How do you deal with them?

A: Laugh and threaten them back. While they made the mist, there’s no way they’re going to be able to do something similar on the fly.

B: Give them a taste of their own medicine. You know an old spell for a mist too. Yours just makes people fall asleep instead of giving them painful boils.

Description: After talking to a few of the suspects as well as to some other people who frequent the potion lab, you think you’ve found the likely culprit. There’s a sorcery expert that recently got passed over for a promotion to trainer. You want to confront this suspect. What do you do?

A: Talk to them casually trying to get them to accidentally slip up.

B: Bring a stack of your evidence to confront them with.

Trainer Mei Quest Line: Contain a Baby Kraken

Description: The two other guards leave, one slightly limping and you take up your guarding position, peering at the water warily. From where you are, you can’t see any part of the kraken. That makes sense because krakens, especially young ones, are great at camouflage. As long as they’re not moving, they can be pretty hard to see. Everything is quiet for a good 10 minutes before a tentacle pops up out of the water and pats the shore as though it’s looking for something. When it can’t find anything, a un-proportionally small head pops out of the water. It looks around and it’s eyes locks on you. To your surprises, another tentacle pops out of the water and then it starts to drag itself out of the water.

Now that you’ve completed random missions around town, your trainer has decided to trust you with a personal mission. Each week you will be given a mission based on who you chose for your trainer. You must choose how to complete it to your trainers satisfaction. Your choices will decide what WIPs you work on.

Description: A troll has been spotted outside of town near the bottom of the mountain. It was rerouted from getting to the town for now, but it needs to be dealt with. A team is being assembled and Trainer Ada thinks you’re perfect for the job. Since you’re only barely out of training, you decide to show up with something to impress. What do you bring?

Choices:

A: A giant enchanted sword you borrowed from Trainer Ada.

B: An old spell you found that helps you destroy huge rocks.

Trainer Lenny Quest Line: Siren Treaty Negotiations

Description: Sirens have been kidnapping fishermen in violation of the current treaty for the past few weeks. The fishermen were all saved and got back to shore, but now it’s time for some tense negotiations. Trainer Lenny thinks you could learn something by helping out the group meeting with the siren’s high council. You’re waiting on the isle that will be the meeting spot and notice something… fishy. There’s a fin in the water. You...

A: Grab the group member closest to the water and pull them away.

Trainer Ahmad Quest Line: Potion Lab Investigation

Description: A couple of weeks ago, there was an issue in the potion lab. A mysterious mist that caused painful boils lingered in the potion lab for a couple of days before someone managed to get a spell to disband it. While the major issue is now dealt with, it’s piqued Ahmad’s interest and he wants to discover exactly what the mist was. You’ll need to talk to potion master Gino, but he's pretty busy and doesn't really care about the mist now that it’s dealt with. How will you convince the potion master to talk to you?

A: Nothing works as good as flattery! Bring them a coffee and you’re sure he’ll spill the details.

B: Show him the research you’ve already done about the mist and hint that it could come back.

Trainer Mei Quest Line: Contain a Baby Kraken

Description: A baby kraken has been living in the local teen swimming spot. It was recently identified and the ocean-life preservation squad has been summoned to relocate it safely. However, until they get here, someone needs to make sure it doesn’t try to start eating people (again). It’s still just a baby, so Mei thinks you’re a good candidate for helping to watch it. Your shift is from 2pm-8pm every day.

You show up for your first shift only to immediately see one of the guards from the shift before you getting dragged towards the water by a pair of tentacles. You...

A: Shoot off a spell from a good distance away.

Quest 1: With a bit of investigation, you figure out that it wasn’t the entire coven feeding on the townsfolk. There’s been a fracture in the coven, and the group that broke off is the one that’s been sneaking off and feeding on humans. The main coven actually didn’t realize they’d been doing that until you arrived. They decide there’s nothing for it except to run the faction off their land permanently. You help them with telling the faction leaders they aren’t welcome. They weren’t happy, but their numbers aren’t big enough to handle the humans and main coven memebers. Hopefully the issue doesn’t come back up.

Quest 2: You take one look at those fungle beasts and know exactly what they are. They’re people that have been taken over by a mystic parasite. It was invented by an evil wizard 5,000 years ago. It was a big issue a few centuries ago, but has mostly been eradicated. Honestly, you don’t know where this infection came from and you’ll be reporting it to the CMDC very soon, but luckily there are plenty of records of how to deal with the illness still about. Everyone is up and walking (uninfected) in no time.

Quest 3: Wow that was a tough fight! You don’t manage to kill the troll, but you manage to confuse it enough that it gets turned around. It’s too big of a job for just one wizard, so you report back to your trainer. They’ll get a group together and make sure the troll isn’t a threat, but the town is safe for now.

This week, your trainer is sending you to the local mystic forest to deal with a problem threatening the town as a whole. Please help to make sure this threat doesn’t leak out of the trees and into the streets.

Quest 1: A Coven of Energy Vampires

Description: A coven of energy vampires have recently moved in and have been getting rowdy at the forest edges. While energy vampires aren’t necessarily evil, these ones seem to have a bit of disregard for human life. A few local farmers have reported being suspiciously tired. An energy vampire feeding off of someone routinely can cause early aging and ultimately death. Can you make sure that the coven is not draining townsfolk dry?

Emphasis: Intimidation

Reward: +3 Intimidation, +2 Your Choice

Quest 2: Mysterious Fungle Beasts

Description: There have been sightings of a mysterious figure in the mist that seems to have a head made up of mushrooms. What’s worse, anyone who has gone near it has ended up with a horrible rash, a high fever, and delusions. Find the beast, figure out what it is, and make sure it can hurt no one ever again.

Emphasis: Cosmic Wisdom

Reward: +3 Cosmic Wisdom, +2 Your Choice

Quest 3: A Troll

Description: A huge troll has been spotted near the base of the mountain heading steadily towards the town. Trolls are dangerous, mindless beasts who can bring destruction to town in only a few hours. Can you stop it or at least get it on a different path?

Emphasis: Evasion

Reward: +3 Evasion, +2 Your Choice

Quest 4: Hordes of Feral Gnomes

Description: Someone punted a gnome again. They are, of course, very angry about this and they bite! Can you force the gnomes to calm down and listen to reason?

Emphasis: Force

Quest 1: The siren’s have definitely been kidnapping fishermen. Luckily, they’re all still alive because they’d been planning to use them as hostages when renegotiating fishing waters. They try to take you captive too with their songs, but you’d been very prepared for that, having made sure to study their powers in the library before stepping foot in the water. You manage to free the captured fishermen and get them back to shore. The local guard is now taking their statements and will be communicating this to the mayor. Negotiations are going to be a bit tense in the coming months.

Quest 2: It’s a kraken! You don’t know a lot about krakens, but you know that is one. Luckily it’s a baby one (or a lot of people would have been dead already). The second you realize what you’re dealing with, you ask, no, tell the magical ocean-life preservation squad to get down here now and relocate that thing before someone gets hurt.

Quest 3: Ugh. There are a lot of piranhas. Luckily, you know a spell or two that will destroy their eggs. Unfortunately, it still takes you a few days of gross fishing with steel nets to get all of the adults out of the area without killing every fish in a mile radius (if there are any considering how many the horde of piranhas ate). You manage it though! Now someone just needs to clean up all those carcasses… Not it.

Description: A script that has a blue water design. It constantly shifts making it appear as though your equipment or armor is wet.

Golden Shine Enchantment (May come back another time. 6 for sale)

Descriptions: An enchantment that adds +¼ to Evasion and ¼ to Force. A perfect top off for the Golden Flight Set now that every piece has been sold at least once.

Cost: 50 GP

Black Void in a Box Charm (May come back another time. 6 for sale)

Description: A small box that is void black and maybe has some magical properties. It gives +1/4 to Defensive Magic. A good match for the blackened set.

Your trainer decides it’s time for you to get your feet wet with some more intense quests to help the local fishermen deal with some hazards of the sea. Choose which watery adventure you’ll go on this week.

Quest 1: Spiteful Sirens

Description: Some sirens are encroaching on the fishing waters again despite the deal made with them only last year. Not only do they steal all the fish from the area, but a few crew members have gone suspiciously missing along with all of the fish. Help figure out what exactly is going on and possibly renegotiate the treatise.

Emphasis: Offense

Reward: +5 to Any Combination of Offensive Skills

Quest 2: Wild Sea Monster

Description: An unknown creature has been spotted multiple times near the local teen swimming spot. Last night, a 14-year-old boy was grabbed, and almost drowned by a thing with long claws. He was only able to get away when one of his friends cast a shielding spell. Can you figure out what the creature is and help defeat it before someone gets even more hurt?

Emphasis: Defense

Reward: +5 to Any Combination of Defensive Skills

Quest 3: Piranha Infestation

Description: A piranha infestation has been making the local bay unusable in the past few weeks. What’s worse, animal bones keep popping up all over the shore creating a creepy mess. Can you get rid of the piranhas so the bay can be reopened?

Emphasis: Offense

Reward: +5 to Any Combination of Offensive Skills

Quest 4: Angry Snapping Turtles

A bale of snapping turtles have been causing a ruckus along the river, protesting the pollution of their waters by the new magical garbage dump up stream. They’ve got a lot to say and a lot to bite. Can you mediate the controversy so the river can get back to being peaceful?
