Sofia Monterey County Rose
Sofia Monterey County Rose -- Francis Ford Coppola Winery
The  Francis Ford Coppola Winery describes this wine as:
Feminine and stylish, with a fragrant perfume of fresh strawberries and lavender, this rosĂ© explodes with ripe, juicy flavors of cherry, raspberry and citrus zest. This refreshing wine is reminiscent of the popular dry rosĂ©s served in seaside cafĂ© along the French Riviera. Itâs crisp, delicate, and elegantly fruity with just a kiss of spice on the finish.
Honestly, if I had read this description before drinking it, Iâd probably be really disappointed. I donât get any of those fruit flavors described, or lavender or... spice? Does that mean something really different when it comes to wine? Spice makes me think of curry.
Fortunately, I tried the wine first (it was a gift, so...). I chilled it in the fridge overnight, as I tend to like white and rose fairly cold. The temperature works really well for this wine, as it is overall quite refreshing. Itâs not sweet, but also not too dry for me, which I tend to be sensitive about. Itâs a tough one to describe, as it doesnât really seem fruity to me... itâs mild and refreshing and wine, It makes me think of ice-cold lemonade due to how refreshing it is, but again, it doesnât really taste citrusy to me.
Itâs great to just drink a glass of on its own. I suspect a mellow cheese would go well with it, but itâs not very strong, so nothing much beyond that. Itâd probably also do quite well as a palate cleanser after a heavy meal, but not with it.
Honestly, overall, it find it somewhat unremarkable. Probably not something Iâm going to go looking for again, as Iâve had wines that made a bigger impression at a lower price point.
Itâs a terribly hot summer though, and I do already have this bottle, so Iâll enjoy it while it lasts.
