thank you for all the laughs, wisdom, and wonderful music, peter h. thorkelson: 13th feb 1942 - 21st feb 2019.
Iâm devastated. I canât overestimate how important Peter and the Monkees were to me as a kid. I never met Peter, but I am so glad I got to see him perform with Micky & Mike in 2012 and at the Monkees last show at the Pantages in 2016.Â

The rough, sometimes druggy genesis of the American independent movie business of the â60s and â70s was recalled by Micky Dolenz and Michael Nesmith of the Monkees during a sold-out 50th anniversarâŚ
I went to this screening the other night. Brought back memories of the first time I saw âHeadâ on the big screen, in the early â80s at Facets Multimedia in Chicago. During the first bridge-jumping scene, my friend Mary elbowed me in the ribs, and pointed excitedly at Mickyâs butt.Â
Our giggly, R-rated commentary throughout the movie would have gotten us kicked out of the Egyptian the other night!
I also remember, quite fondly, the heyday of the Monkees fandom on Tumblr (for me anyway) from 2012-2014. Some of the best fun Iâve ever had on the internet.
Davy in âDaddyâs Songâ got the biggest applause of the night. The crowd at the Egyptian was mostly Baby Boomers and a few Gen-Xers. Didnât see anyone younger than 40-45. Quite different from my forays into Monkeedom 4-6 years ago, when families and younger people attended these types of events as well.
According to Andrew Sandoval, there are still boxes and boxes of outtakes from the movie, but the film is so badly decomposed, staying in a room with them can make you sick. (Thatâs the actual physical film, not the content.) Or maybe the content, tooâŚ
The outtakes of the alter-egos (Micky as Pan, Peter as Pagliacci) , have been lost/destroyed, so we only have photographs left.
A hilarious clip of Micky Dolenz on an episode of the show Difficult People, in which he plays a, wellâŚexaggeratedâŚversion of himself.Â
(The full episode is available on Hulu.)
