unrelated to recent events of course but it's very surreal that social repercussions are treated as a "soft" consequence to an action when shunning is the most powerful tool we have as a group to dictate the behavior of others. someone who is disliked is fair game for most kinds of "harder" punishments; you take away other humans' sympathy for you and in the wild you are as good as dead. but what do you even do? you can't demand sympathy. why would anyone inherently deserve to be liked? i fear like with most things it's a matter of majority vote, there is no good or bad person to approve of or condemn, this is something we all decide together, yes? we've been doing this since before we invented the wheel; leadership and hegemony are modern inventions, from after the wheel, before then when we couldn't write yet we were used to shunning the ones threatening what fragile social harmony we had. in short, if we think you aren't being very cool, good luck fending off those wolves all by yourself. you're fucking weird man what if we stopped talking to you. what if we laughed when you get hurt because you're weird as shit and scary. what if we were right all the time. go live by yourself weird boy
