Indigenous lands are crucial for climate mitigation and resilience. Research shows their health is a direct result of Indigenous stewardship
While this isn't news to anyone who works in this space, it is useful to have this water-is-wet research to affirm that Indigenous knowledge and land management are extremely effective at storing carbon and protecting biodiversity.
I want to draw special attention to this part of the article:
New research shows that approach overlooks the key role that Indigenous knowledge and culture can play in mitigating climate change. It also reveals a dangerous misconception that has taken hold in global climate discussions: the idea that Indigenous lands are so rich because they are remote or sparsely populated. Nothing could be further from the truth. The health of Indigenous lands and their ability to store vast quantities of carbon stem from the stewardship of the people who inhabit them.
So what, you want to grow plants in commercial areas? Well let me tell you: we already tried having a Market Garden, and it didn't go so well!
It's always funny to me when people send asks with absolutely no context. Most of my posts are queued reblogs so I genuinely have no clue what post, if any, you're trying to respond to.
Just had the first block party on my street since I moved in more than a decade ago. My neighbor and I just decided on a date and went around leaving flyers on doors/talking to people who were home.
It went so well. We set up in an empty lot, some of us brought tables and chairs, everybody brought food. About 30 people came. Multiple people told us they'd always wanted a block party.
Before this I knew maybe 5 neighbors by name. Now I know dozens. That feels wonderful.

Everyone thinks cyberpunk is so cool until you wear technological adaptations to rampant disease and wildfires.
perhaps some will disagree, but i think the world got worse when we changed the colour of the night
this is what i mean
Via @bulbaderp
To be clear, THIS is how nights of the future should be lit
This is bat friendly street lighting, which not only looks sick as fuck but allows bats to pass through without disturbance, as they cannot see red.
orange and especially white lights deter bats and prevent them from reaching feeding grounds at nighttime. Please if you can, write to your local council and encourage red street lights!!!!
ALSO! red light doesn’t fuck up human night vision much so you can go in and out of lit areas without readjusting
the red light not fucking up human night vision is also why a number of older cars had gauges that lit up red at night
i legit miss red lights in cars and appliances n stuff. red city lighting is goated

bringing something fancy to the potluck (lettuce that won't give us bad poos)
the idea that restrooms, locker rooms, etc need to be single-sex spaces in order for women to be safe is patriarchy's way of signalling to men & boys that society doesn't expect them to behave themselves around women. it is directly antifeminist. it would be antifeminist even if trans people did not exist. a feminist society would demand that women should be safe in all spaces even when there are men there.
btw this is maybe the single most key distinguishing feature of the terfy strains of radical feminism, the seed all the rest of it springs out of: they have absolutely no faith in the ability of feminism to actually destroy patriarchy. they do not think feminism can truly build a better world. they cannot really even imagine that possibility. they think patriarchy is an inevitable natural consequence of unchangeable biological facts, and therefore the goal of feminism can only be to mitigate the worst effects of patriarchy, not to get rid of it.
they can imagine a society where women get some designated safe spaces without men around. they cannot imagine a society where the presence of men is not inherently a danger to women.

[Photo ID: a screenshot of the 2016 film Moana during the “You’re Welcome” song where Maui is on Moana’s boat. It has the captions of the lyrics but the “you’re welcome” has been edited over with a black box with new white text over it.

"Solarpunk was created by a yogurt commercial"
You have not spoken to a Brazilian punk in over 23 years.
Your only exposure to an anti-corporate movement focused around sustainable energy generation and ecological living... has been from a dairy corporation...?
So what you're trying to tell me is that you view corporations as more valid than communities from 'the global south'?
That a singular ad is enough to delegitimize and erase any and all work done by people with brown skin?
It's not just 'shitting on punk as just aesthetics' which also ignores everything punks have done politically, practically, and socially. It's blatantly racist.
When I am king, we will valorize sanitation workers the way we currently valorize the military
So heroic posters showing trashmen battling allegorical monsters? I'm down.
Yeah but that's just the beginning. I also want Sanitation Worker Discounts at every business and blockbuster movie propaganda glorifying sanitation work. I want random people to salute garbage collectors and thank them for their service. I want drivers who get impatient with the recycling truck and honk at it and swerve around it to become social pariahs
