When prepping for Oprah Magazine, I was sent a trunk full of designer clothes. It was like Christmas morning. They sent me things from Norma Komali, Brunello Cucinelli, Lafayette 148, and COS. But nothing jumped out to me like this double-breasted tweed suit from Norma Komali. I did my research and found that the Norma Kamali line has a section of Gender-Fluid clothing. Norma has stepped out of the box and is inclusive not only with gender but also with age. I believe that ageism is something that needs to be addressed. If you live long enough you’ll run into it as well. I hope and pray that when my children and grandchildren get to be my age, that this isn’t an issue anymore. A #throwbackthursday = western-inspired outfit, right? This jacket is a throwback from about 25 years ago. I have always said if you make purchases that are smart and are made well they can last a lifetime. All of my “older” pieces hold sweet memories of each garment. I use to have a quarter horse. His name was Dakota. He was a beautiful chestnut color with a flaxen mane and tail. He was absolutely the most incredible creature. Dakota stayed at my good friend, Kathy's barn. She used him to teach small and special needs children how to ride. This horse had an amazing gift! He knew when a child that was taking lessons was either inexperienced or was handicapped. His gentle demeanor helped teach so many children how to ride. Last year he passed away from issues with colic. As I combed through my closet the other day, I saw this jacket and pulled it out to wear. Sweet memories danced through my head as I remembered all the times I wore this to ride that quarter horse of mine. When I started The Silver Stylist in December 2015, I was anxious but ready to start a new chapter of my life. I literally could not have done any of this without your help and guidance. My new home is at thesilverstylist.co, a change from the old the-silverstylist.com. I have a new color palette, new website, new blog layout, and new appreciation for what I do. I am so excited for the next chapter of The Silver Stylist. It was my goal then as it’s my goal now, to help all women, no matter the size, shape, or age, to feel fearless in their own skin. I have been so blessed to be able to share these wonderful creatives over the month of February. My main goal in life is to help people, and I will always use my voice and privilege to promote creatives of color. We are all here for such a short time- @mossonyi/ I started following Onyi during Covid. Her moody Instagram page was so interesting to me. Her outfits run between different periods in fashion, yet she has made them her own. This beauty is a British Nigerian who lives in Manchester, UK. Onyi’s style travels across time as she tells a story through her photographs. She has also released her debut single “In Your Eye.” @tamumcpherson/ Tamu was featured in the November issue of Oprah Magazine and that is where I first connected with her. She has been a fashion blogger since 2008 with “All the Pretty Birds” She has used her platform to focus on inclusivity and to shine a light on the work of activists and relevant issues. A year ago at Milan’s Fashion Week, she was the host for “Digital Creatives of Colour.” She is also helping to organize connecting Italy’s creatives of color to companies and brands. @visualiseandbloom/ Valerie I started following about 4 years ago. She is a silver sister and I love her hair. Her story is one of strength and courage as she has gone through a loss in her life. Valerie shares her fashion, hobbies, art, and words of inspiration. Her paintings are modern works of art. I adore these women and I’m thankful that I have them in my circle to inspire me. @jordinmeredith/ Jordin is a model that I met during a photoshoot I was the makeup artist for back in 2019. This shoot was relaxed and chill, and just the way I like them! Jordin was such a pleasure to work with. She went on to work during 2020 fashion week in New York City. I know she will continue to do great things because she is a true beauty inside and out. @greivy/ I met Greivy at a Cabi Clothing Scoop in Nashville, Tennessee that we both had been invited to in 2019. Her outgoing personality and kindness will always be endearing to me. She is another influencer that amazes me on how she balances her business, being a Momma of two and a wife. Greivy loves dresses and so do I! She also has a handbag and sunglasses collection that is incredible. @anitabydesign/ I started following Anita when she became part of the Fierce 50. Anita is a seamstress and sews her own clothes. That was fascinating to me because my mother sewed a good bit of my clothing when I was a child. Anita has been through hardship as she lost her husband, Cecil to cancer several years ago. She has also become an author. These wonderful, beautiful people are some of my favorite creators and i’m so inspired by them this #BlackHistoryMonth. @odetothesun // I met Rachelle about 4 years ago at a shoot for Meghan Mckendree, who is the designer for @hartjewelry here in Atlanta. I instantly loved her free-spirit, confidence and beauty. This girl has the most gorgeous skin and mile long legs, two things I’ve always wished I was born with. My daughter's middle name is pronounced the same as Rachelle, just spelled a little differently. I didn’t know anyone with this name, but loved it, now I know someone that carries that name and adore her. @theeageofgrace // I met Eugenia when I became part of the “Fierce 50 Campaign” back in 2017. And I had the privilege of meeting her on one of my trips to New York. She had organized a gathering for those who were interested in meeting up while we were in New York that year. It is wonderful to be part of a community of women over 50 supporting one another, in fact it’s how I met many of the women I follow on social media today. Eugenia’s style is impeccable and her heart is huge. @birabiro // I met Lydia on the same trip to New York that I met Eugenia on. Lydia is a lawyer by day, a jewelry designer (Birabiro Jewelry), has two beautiful daughters and loves color like I do. Her jewelry is unique and cool just like she is. I mean she’s a practicing attorney, that makes jewelry and parents two girls and makes time to show you her outfits on social media. Lydia motivates and inspires me to work hard and be passionate about my craft. February is the month of love, and what a better way to spend it than with a new pink clutch to carry your heart, and your lipstick? FYI- I’ve had this pink bag for several years, and it has served me well. And you’ll continue to see me carry it. It’s not about how much you have, it’s all about how you use what’s in your closet. 2021 is a new year, time for change… and we’re posting every day for February. Looking good isn’t just about Makeup. It has a lot to do with how you take care of your skin. As we age, our bodies change, and so does our skin. I make sure and drink plenty of water each day to help keep my body and skin hydrated. I also take a multivitamin everyday, along with extra vitamins E, D, biotin (for my hair and nails) and fish oil. I wish sunscreen had been recommended more when I was younger, but that wasn’t the case. I have learned to wear sunscreen and a hat while I’m out in the sun to protect my face. I use a gentle cleanser to remove my makeup each night and exfoliate 1-2 times a week. A night time moisturizer is a must for me as well as a good eye cream. I am also trying out a couple of different pharmaceutical grade products and can’t wait to share what the results are on my skin. I’m trying the “Age Intervention Face Cream” from @janmarini and two products from @revisionskincare. The products are D•E•J Face Cream and Restorative Night Cream.
