After Jango had filled him in on his cloned soldiers and his idiotic attempts to get revenge on the Jedi Order, Jaster had decided it was high time he try to track down one of his cloned grandchildren. After, of course, a long lecture about how disappointed he was in Jango’s actions. But out of the nearly two million Jango had mentioned, he had only been able to find one.
The man in front of him was so obviously wary of Jaster’s intentions that it hurt. Pulling his helmet off, he gave the man–Marshall Commander Cody, CC-2224, named Kote by Jango himself–a small smile. “Commander, I’m Jaster Mereel, Jango’s buir.” he introduced himself. “I’d just like to talk, if you’d be willing.”

Cody didn’t know what to say. What to think. When he had heard that Jaster was alive, he assumed the former Mand’alor would denounce Jango’s actions. But he hadn’t expected him to offer Cody a place in his clan. To consider him family.
“I…” he started, only to trail off “I’d like that.” He found himself saying. And it was true. He would like that. He had never really allowed himself to think about having family outside the vode. But he still wanted it. Force he had a ba’buir.
“I won’t consider Jango my buir. I might have once, but not now. Probably never again.” Cody warned Jaster “And I won’t give up my Jedi.” He hoped those weren’t dealbreakers but he’d rather be clanless than give up Obi-Wan.
Jaster smiled fondly and reached out, squeezing Cody’s shoulder “Then consider yourself a part of House and Clan Mereel.” he said, thought his smile faded a little and he sighed heavily “No, I didn’t think you would. Jango was very honest when I asked. I don’t blame you for that. Nor would I ask you to give up your jetii.” Jaster assured him, letting his hand drop “Not that I would have anyway, but having met Master Kenobi, I can certainly see why you’re so fond of him.” he said teasingly.
“You’re welcome to take Mereel as a last name if you’d like, and please let any of your vode that come back know as well. Every single one of you are family.”
Jaster wasn’t much for gambling often, the Haat Mando’ade hadn’t had many credits to begin with and Jaster had always put whatever money he did have towards their needs.
But he needed a break from the chaos that the galaxy was descending into, and he found himself on Canto Bight. Not only could he relax, but a place like Canto Bight might be a good place to find some work should he want some.
Jaster certainly hadn’t expected to see a Jedi among the crowds of drunks and bookies, but there he was. Making his way through the crowd, Jaster grinned “Master Kenobi, I can’t say I expected to see you here. Didn’t think Jedi were the gambling types.” He laughed.

betting on the races had not been a part of obi-wan’s plan, he was attending the event to keep an eye on the other guests, even if he knew there would be no way to sense if they were going to be attacked —a fact he had stopped bringing up, perhaps the people needed a moment of relaxation— it was better to be on site than having to travel across the galaxy if something were to happen.
obi-wan smiled recognizing the voice, he was pleasantly surprised to find jaster here, sure there were familiar faces all around but not many obi-wan liked to engage in conversation with. jaster though he had liked the moment they had met.
with a small chuckle obi-wan said, ❝well my master used to say the force will provide❞ the jedi nodded, ❝opportunities to make some credits. he never let good odds pass, and it’s no secret the order is not what it was, we need the credits❞ he said with a small shrug, ❝what about you sir, came to place some bets, or just enjoy the cocktails?❞
Jaster laughed and smiled at Kenobi “Ah well it seems we’re both here for about the same reasons.” he said “Being dead so long isn’t good on the bank account. While Jango has been nice enough to share what he has, I prefer being able to fund my own way.”
He glanced around the crowds for a moment “I figured this might be a good spot to look for some work as well, plus I can relax some.” Jaster shrugged “Never was one for betting much, doesn’t look too good when the Mand’alor is spending credits on races after all.”
Jaster grinned at Obi-Wan “The Mand’alor’s buir spending credits on the races though...that’s much different.”

I do believe the New Mandalorian’s proved that well unfortunately.” He said with a sigh “I simply wanted to moderate it.” He murmured “Hopefully Jango will have a better chance in achieving that in this era than either of us did in the past.”

padmé nodded her head empathetically. she was all too familiar with the tragedy of new mandalore –– a part of her still hoped to see satine, through all of the oddities… but knew that it was selfish to ask for too much. “do you think that something that jango would be interested in now?” she questioned, a brow giving a curious raise.
“It is. He has…so many regrets.” Jaster said quietly “The lost of his first parents, then me and the other True Mandalorians. It took a toll on him.” He said with a heavy sigh “It doesn’t excuse his actions, but now that he has a second chance, he truly wants to be the Mand’alor I wanted him to be.”

Though it was short lived and he sighed “I have hopes. I know Jango wants the same, though I doubt the two of your are on the same page about what that means.” He laughed quietly. maybe his stubborn son would be able to look past his dislike of Kryze’s and their pacifism.

“Agreement between factions.” Korkie chuckled a little, that always seemed to be a running theme between Mandalorians, one that always ended horribly, for all Mandalorians. “My aunts factions never seemed to agree either until the end. Even then though, Mandalore itself was divided. It brought a dark sided outsider to bring them together, and still Mandalore burned.” Korkie let out a sigh, and rubbed at the back of his neck, “It would seem that the Mandalorians will never agree on anything, despite anyone’s best efforts. Hopefully this time, our near extinction will be enough to convince us that we must b and together despite any differences we may have.”
Jaster hummed a little “Well, maybe you and Jango might agree after all.” He said with a small chuckle. “Though I think the ability to disagree with one another so violently must be in our DNA.”
He couldn’t help but sigh in sadness though “As happy as I am that I was given a second chance at life, I can’t help but be thankful that I didn’t live through our near extinction. I believe it would have broken me.” He said quietly.

Korkie chuckled a little when the eloquence of Clan Kryze was brought uo. “You can say I got it from my aunts. A lot of their life lessons have rubbed off on me I fear.” Korkie nodded his head in agreeance, Jaster’s statement was something that Korkie had become all too familiar with.....rebuilding. “Rebuilding is all I know lately. Perhaps for once we can rebuild into something that doesn’t collapse.”

Cody knew who the Mandalorian was before he even introduced himself. Before Jango had changed, he had told Cody and the other cadets stories of Mandalore and Jaster Mereel. He and the other’s had been fascinated by the tales, though the trainers had always made sure to let them know that they were nothing like the Mando’ade in the tales once Jango was gone.
He wasn’t sure what Mereel wanted, Cody knew Jango was back. What could he possibly want with a mere copy of his son? “I’m willing.” he said warily though. He’d hear him out, Jango had always pressed how kind his buir had been after all. Hopefully that would extend to a clone.
Jaster smiled and relaxed “Good, I’m glad. Thank you.” He said, moving to take a seat across from Cody “I wouldn’t have blamed you if you didn’t want anything to do with considering I’m Jango’s buir.” He said with a soft and disappointed huff.
“My foolish son told me about you and your brothers, and while I would apologize for him, words likely aren’t enough.” Jaster told him. “I just wanted to let you know that house Mereel is open to you, should you want to claim it. You’re as much Mando’ade as I am. And that goes for any of your brothers as well.”
Jaster shifted in his seat and gave Cody a soft smile “Should you want to claim me as family, I’d happily consider you my grandson. I do anyway.”

“Oh I knew it, I suppose I just didn’t expect it to come from one of my own men.” Jaster said, frowning a little as he recalled Montross turning his back on him as Vizsla shot him down and Jango explaining his second’s betrayal. “There are far too many willing to kill for those reasons. You’d think that not wanting to the return of the Mandalorian Empire was an insult to the Ka’ra themselves with how Death Watch reacted.” he snorted.
“i unfortunately can empathize with that. people rarely do.” padmé had been suspicious of palpatine, sure –– thought that the power had gone to his head, but she would have never accused him of being a sith lord. he had been her mentor as a girl, something that she could never forget. “your people have a long history of violence. it’s… tragic, from an outsider’s perspective, at least.”

Despite Mandalore’s usual tension with the Jedi, Jaster had never been one to blame beings for actions that had taken place centuries ago, and had he lived and been able to unite the clans, he would have tried to reach out to the Order. He was simply neutral in his opinion of Jedi.
“I apologize, I was just wondering if you could enlighten me on what is bringing people back to life.”

obi-wan would never admit that the voice calling out for him took him by surprise, but if the force had not warned him about it then it meant they meant no harm, right? no because he had been so distracted that he had tuned out everything around him. force knows he would be mortified to admit that out loud.
surprised or not, obi-wan smiled up at the stranger and offered a hand and introduced himself, ❝obi-wan kenobi❞ not long ago it had been obi-wan trying to make sense of how he had been on his way to a certain death only to found himself waking up —severely injured of course— on geonosis, annoying his would be savior with so many questions he was lucky they had not shot him just to make him shut up. ❝feel no need to apologize, it’s always nice when people feel comfortable approaching us…❞
❝unfortunately what we know is very little, it does have to do with a rift in the force❞ he could not imagine anyone would like the force to be the explanation, an act of love, obi-wan found himself wanting to say, ❝i am also not from this time, so i’m afraid that’s as much as i can offer, i am sorry. but as far as we know it is irreversible, and most people do believe it is the force offering them a second chance…❞
Obi-Wan Kenobi. Now that was a name that Jaster had familiarized himself with over the last days after Jango had begrudgingly filled him in on his part of the war that had led to so much death and suffering. (He was still upset and disappointed with his son, cloning, really?)
“Jaster Mereel,” he introduced himself, shaking Kenobi’s hand with a smile “I’m sure you don’t get many Mandalorians approaching you jetii.” he chuckled, glancing down at his armor that marked him apart from most.
A grimace crossed his face as Kenobi admitted that not even the Jedi knew much “Well, I certainly don’t want it reversed considering I had just been shot several times with a laser canon.” Jaster said dryly. “Though perhaps your force had a hand in me running into you. I hear that you were very kind to all my grandsons despite Jango’s foolishness.”

Jaster sighed and nodded “You’re right.” he said in agreement, glancing down at the Senator “Violence for the sake of violence was one of the main reasons I created the reforms in the Codex.” he said before laughing quietly, rubbing a hand over his chest “Who knew wanting less violence would lead to my death?”
jaster mareel was a man that she knew by legend more than anything else. “had one of us been born in a different time, i certainly could have told you such a thing.” satine, too, without a doubt, but she did not bring up duchess kryze just yet. she had been a dear friend, still a sore spot in her own heart. “i lost count of the attempts on my life for trying to do the same. war brings money and there are too many people willing to kill for that.”

boba pulls his helmet off as he approaches his grandfather, curls sticking up slightly as he does so. he has only ever HEARD about his ba’buir before – almost could not believe jango when he had told him jaster is here too. he raises a hand in greeting, shifts slightly awkwardly. ❛ su cuy’gar. ❜ the mando’a feels CLUMSY on his tongue though his pronunciation is as natural as it’s ever been. he has had no one to speak it to for years now. ❛ i’m boba. ❜
Jaster grinned brightly as his grandson approached him. Jango had given him a heads up that Boba had been brought back to them as well, and Jaster couldn’t wait to meet his bu’ad. He was deeply unhappy with how Jango had given him a grandchild, but that was a separate issues.
“Bob’ika! Jango told me you might come see me.” he said happily, stepping over to the young man and reaching out, gripping Boba’s arm and pulling him into a hug instead “You have no idea how happy I am to meet you.”

Jaster had put a tracker in Jango’s beskar’gam after the sixth time Death Watch had tried to kidnap his son. The teen had put up a fight, but Jaster had won in this end. After he had been unable to hail Jango or any one else in his comm, he’d gone for the tracker, hoping that his son had either forgotten about it in his grief. It was a small, desperate hope, especially after Jaster had realized what year it was. But it was all he had.
The Ka’ra must have been looking out for him though, because the tracker had pinged not long after and Jaster had set a course. It had led him to Onderon, and he had headed to the ship where the tracker was coming from. Either Jango or his armor were inside, and Jaster didn’t know what he would do if the beskar’gam was there and his son was nowhere to be found.
The only reason that Jango still had the tracker that his buir had put in his armor all those years ago is because he hadn’t been able to let go of anything that reminded him of Jaster. But he had locked it all up in his room on Kamino, only pulling it out when he had woken up in the ruins. He hadn’t forgotten about it, but it had been out of sight for so long that it wasn’t something he thought about often.
But seeing the all too familiar ship land next to Slave 2 had everything rushing back. Jaster’s Legacy had been destroyed decades ago, even with the strange force anomaly, Jango had never expected to see it again. Steeling himself so he didn’t appear to be shaken at the sight of the ship, he made sure he had his blaster before striding out of his skip, only to almost stumble over himself at the sight of the Mandalorian waiting for him.
“Buir?” he gasped out, ripping his helmet off his head to make sure he was seeing things right and it wasn’t some strange HUD malfunction. But no, that was Jaster’s beskar’gam and the red cape his buir had always been fond of, to the point that Jango had teased him relentlessly about when he’d been younger.
Jaster tensed as the ship opened, waiting to see if he would see his son or if he would have to kill some stranger who had stolen Jango’s armor. And if it was Jango, would he be older? Or had his son been a victim to this strange event as well.
The Mandalorian that stepped out of the ship wasn’t wearing the armor that Jaster expected. The blue and grey was new, but he would know his own beskar’gam anywhere. Grief welled up inside of him for a moment. Had Jango taken his armor after his death?
Jaster’s thoughts were shoved aside when the helmet was pulled off and he realized he had started forward without realizing it. “Jango…ner ad, you went and grew up.” He said softly, a smile taking over his face as he pulled Jango into a hug.
