It's dark in my imagination...

it's been a million years (eleven months) since I posted anything here - I'm alive and well but have been working on other projects, including a graphic novel that I think will appeal to enjoyers of Watson's Sketchbook (more information on that...later). To tide you over, here's a little pre-Reichenbach snippet, made on the theme of 'Home' for the Very Sincerely Yours zine @very-sincerely-yours-zine - thank you for asking me to participate! It looks like copies of the full zine are sold out but PDFs are available here!

(I saw a debate about whether or not it was okay for people to share fic links around without asking the authors first, since some authors may not be comfortable with the links to their fics being shared around on twitter or tumblr. so I thought this post could be a blanket permission for authors who were okay with the links to their fics being shared around!)

For goodness sake, rec the fics. Rec them on Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, Bluesky, Instagram, Snapchat, Discord, or the reanimated corpse of MySpace. Rec them on Pinterest. Rec them by semaphore, smoke signal, or Morse code. Rec them via a page ripped out of a college-ruled notebook and folded into a tiny triangle and flicked across a classroom while the teacher is looking in the other direction. Heck, rec them on Slack, Teams, email, text, postal mail, or a message scratched with a long stick into snow, sand, or dirt. Just rec the fics.

whump also suggests an interest in a character's subjectivity, their specific relationships and experiences and what would hurt them the most and what would provide the most comfort to them in particular, and overall an intimate engagement with the character. and so when people are never interested in engaging deeply with characters who aren't thin white guys..... it is perhaps suggestive of a bias or two!!

reminder that the books themselves also suck ass actually. there's an entire plotline endorsing slavery. the one character who advocates to end slavery is bullied and made fun of. the one slave who doesnt like being enslaved is bullied and treated as an outcast. the bankers are the picture of racist stereotypes of jewish people. the one asian character is named fckn Cho Chang. the worldbuilding SUCKS. fuck harry potter and fuck rowling. stop giving her your money.
