welcome to riley's fashion philosophies where I give you fashion advice you should live by 24/7! these are philosophies I SWEAR by when it comes to looking your best in public. Think of this as your own digital fashion diary 🎀💓
1st philosophy: NEVER go out in an outfit without accessorizing
you ever look at your outfit in the mirror and think "somethings missing"? well yeah that's because something IS missing and that's accessories. adding accessories to your outfit make it so much better! not to mention wearing accessories that make you feel good will also make your outfit LOOK good. charm bracelets, gold hoops, silver hoops, bangles, tooth gems, statement necklaces, purses, etc. all this goes into making the perfect outfit! its important to have a collection of your favorite accessories in order to make your outfit!
2nd philosophy: shoes, shoes, shoes
shoes are the biggest statement in an outfit, your outfit can look flawless but it all really comes down to the shoes! if the shoes don't compliment the outfit then its all just going to look a hot mess. wedges, kitten heels, pumps, booties, sandals, stilettos, all of it! always always alwayssss make sure your shoes go with your outfit.
3rd philosophy: put the style in hairstyle
you may think that your hair makes no difference to your outfit, but what if I told you that you're completely wrong? by styling your hair you can take your outfit to the next level! curling, straightening, crimping, braiding, all of the above will make your look 1000 times better. For my short hair girlies, even adding simple accessories like a bow will make a difference, and for my beautiful black girls you can style your braids in a thousand different ways! Even if you don't have braids you can style locs, twists, dreads, afros, cornrows, bantu knots, lace fronts, etc. in so many other ways!
4th philosophy: thrift stores are a girls bestfriend!
not everything you own has to be designer! in my opinion, just because its expensive doesn't mean it looks good. instead, try going to your local thrift store, by thrifting clothes not only will you save money...but you'll be surprised by what you can find. For my Y2K, earthy, and grunge girlies especially, thrift stores will have almost everything you need in order to get the look you want! Other stores like Ross, Burlington, and Nordstrom's are always a good outlet as well.
5th philosophy: lets pick some acrylic
now nails are always optional, but it does do your outfit justice. a nice outfit should also be worn with a nice set of nails! whether you adorn your nails with acrylic, gel, press ons, or even regular nail polish...it'll pull your look together by a lot!
6th philosophy: keep yourself glossed!
lip gloss is almost like a holy grail in girl world, even if you aren't wearing makeup with your outfit...your lips should still be glossed and moist. I always carry at least two lip glosses and lipliner with me just in case I need to touch myself up in public! NEVER go out in public with cracked and peeling lips, that's just unflattering. Wearing a little bit of lip gloss is like the cherry on top of a perfect outfit!
