Live-Work Space in Montreal

I’m always fascinated to see how people combine their work and home life and make it work under one roof. The couple behind the Montreal design studio, MARK+VIVI did just that and more by transforming a former tire shop in Verdun into a versatile home office. Renovating the 800-square-foot space was actually their first project. I love their use of raw materials combined with bold splashes of color like the yellow in the kitchen. The exposed structural support on the lower level gives it a beautiful loft-like feel. Sustainability was super important to them so all the plywood was sourced locally to build the floors and custom cabinets.

Earlier this year, Vacilando featured Richard Silver’s Time Slice series, which captured sunset at iconic landmarks around the world. This was my first time seeing a time slice—and I loved it! Locations look and feel different depending on the light and time of day, so to be able to see all of a place’s moods in one image (and the progression of time) is quite amazing.

These awe-inspiring time slice photos were taken by Los Angeles-based photographer Dan Marker-Moore, who shot the North American cityscapes from the air. 

In an interview with The Creators Project, Marker-Moore gives greater insight into his process: ”I like to approach each timeslice a little differently, and explore what works for the scene. A lot of them fall flat. In fact, I shoot and edit quite a few that don’t work for each one that I share. Important aspects of a winning timeslice include good variation of color in the sky and strong subject. I really think I’ve only begun to explore design possibilities.”
