Not telling your kid they have a learning disability, chronic illness, mental illness etc. so they can “feel normal” actually does the opposite. They will not feel normal if they do not have the context to understand that their normal will be different from that of their peers.

The amount of times I’ve heard a parent say something like “I’m just not going to tell my son he has ADHD, I want him to feel normal.” HE DOES NOT. HE DOES NOT FEEL NORMAL. HE IS WONDERING WHY HE IS STRUGGLING AND COMING TO THE CONCLUSION HE IS AN IRREDEEMABLE FAILURE.

practice soft skills. shit is going to keep getting worse for a good while before it starts getting better. we need to be making an active effort to show ppl grace and kindness and understanding now, bc were all going thru it, and maintaining community is only gonna get more and more important from here on out. this isnt optional, its a survival skill

when people tell you not to care what other people think, you hear “some people are always going to dislike you for who you are,” but what you actually need to be hearing is literally “you have to learn non-attachment to the concept of other people even understanding who you are at all” which is like… just so deeply much harder to accept
