The saddest afterglow scene in the most beautiful show (I feel you linger in the air, episode 12)
( or how f*cking GOOD is this show that it's making me meta my way of a 60 seconds scene)
The way the love scene in this episode is framed is delicate, smart and beautiful: it starts with Yai and Jom lingering hands and soft touches, caressing its way into one another. Yai takes the initiative and undresses both of them while worshipping Jom's body, who mostly lets himself enjoy being with Yai.
Till then, we (the audience) act as mere spectators. We are out looking in. But the moment they 'engage' in the act itself, we are shown a shift in focus: we are not just looking at the characters, we are given access to the character's minds, mostly (as the camera focuses mostly on him) to Yai's mind.
While they are making love (eyes closed, bodies joined), the characters remember the road to their love story, their meaningful conversations, the key moments. And we are there with them, basking in those feelings of love, adoration and belonging, as the sounds of their intercourse filter their memories, louder as they reach their climax. (please, standing ovation and all the awards to the director, editor and sound engineer for this part of the scene. )
But, once they climax, reality comes crashing in.
Both open their eyes, and Yai seems to realise the finality of the act, while Jom is still trying to catch his breath.
Yai tries to smile and Jom beautifully offers him a sincere and gentle full face smile. Jom is still basking in the afterglow, too out of it to notice yet.
But Yai isn't. He is becoming more and more aware that time is closing in on them, and collapses onto Jom's chest just so Jom can't see the sadness in his eyes.
Even so, Jom knows it too, and neither of them can't stop the tears from falling.
Jom tries to confort Yai, holds his head in his hands, gazes at him longingly.
And Yai tries the same back to him, caresses his head as he tries to convey the "everything is ok" with his expression, while Jom wipes his tears.
And they f*cking love each other so much that it hurts to see it.
Without letting each other go, they share one last kiss.
And, finally, Yai lets himself rest on top of Jom, burying his face in the crook of Jom's neck.
While Jom holds him in a locked embrace, cherishing their love.
*sniffs, wipes eyes and grabs another kleenex*
