I Want Cake!

A frown crossed his face for a short time before the smile reappeared. “Well, what’ve you been doing to pass the time?”

"Look!" she pulls off her backpack, reaching in and pulling out a dead mouse, which had been cut and stuffed with rocks, then haphazardly sewn back together. "I've been making these...!" 

Joseph glanced around the darkened pizzeria warily. They needed to get out of sight before stuff started coming alive. “I’m the only one here right now, kiddo.” he said quietly, “Come on, let’s go back to my office, we can give your daddy a call. He’s probably worried sick.”

She blinks, then nods, giving a wide grin to match her fathers. “Okay mister…!”

Oh, wow, that was creepy. And familiar. But damn if Joseph couldn’t put his finger on how. He shook his head and held offered his hand to hers, “Stay close, now. Freddy and his pals can get a little grumpy when they’re woken up in the middle of the night.”

"Okay..." She says in a hushed tone, keeping close by his side as they walked.

She nods to the child sitting her back down. “I’ll bet you can, you’re as smart as your mother, and perhaps one day you’ll be even smarter.”

"Really?" She looks to her with wide eyed excitement.

She looked at them for a moment with her grin natural upon her face then looked down at her daughter with a stern look. “I don’t like them…” She paused before smiling and kneeling down to her height to hug her. “I love them! Oh you’re just the sweetest thing since cherrypie!~”

For a moment she looks distraught, but then grins again when her mother turns it around. “Yay! Thank you Mommy…” She hugs her back, smiling brightly.

She lifted her up to snuggle her more and went up to the collection to feel the furs. “Wanna know how to get a fox? Oh their coats are just divine! All you do is set out a rabbit inside a bear trap and BAM! next time you come back you’ll have a lovely fox so you can make that character you like so much!~” She mentioned tickling her child’s tummy in joy.

She giggles happily. "I'll catch you a fox, mommy." She nods, smiling wider. "I bet i can!"

He smiled and gently walked over to the girl, ruffling her hair. “Well, I’m glad you’re safe now.”

She wraps her arms around his leg, beaming up at him with a grin to match his. “I’m okay now!”

"How long were you looking for me?" He’s still smiling, but looks a bit more concerned now.

She's silent for a moment, trying hard to think and remember, but cannot. "I... Don't know. But its okay..." She smiles.

She wraps her arms around his leg, beaming up at him with a grin to match his. "I'm okay now!"

"uhh w-what is it?" he looked down at the child jumping slightly after seeing their eyes

"I can't find my daddy..." She speaks slowly, tilting her head. "Help me...?"
