READINGS WITH JEN SHAFER Capricorn & its ruling planet,Saturn, may be the best kept secrets of the zodiac. Often bogged down by their traditional associations with authority & limitations, we can fail to embrace Cap’s deeper wisdom. The sign previous to Cap, Sagittarius, is Cap’s polar opposite, & gets the glory in many ways for its more obvious freedom loving nature. Capricorn, however, is the necessary yin to Sagittarius’s yang. Sag/Jupiter carries within it the freedom to roam, explore, expand & yet without Capricorn, Sag’s explorations would float on endlessly like hot air. It is through Saturn/Cap, that we focus our spiritual and philosophical meanderings into something useful. Given that we are spirit in human form, Saturn reminds us of the Earthly plane & our limited time in this form. Saturn helps us to respect the container that time & form gives us. Capricorn sets its goals high & so its design is on society, the bigger picture, & what it can contribute to the higher good. With Saturn’s recent entry into its home sign, Capricorn (until 2020, with the sun here now as well), we set out into Winter Solstice & 2018 with the intention to get clear, honing our focus in on what is in true alignment with our soul’s purpose. The best thing about Saturn in our charts by birth or by transit, is that it tells us exactly where the work is, right here, right now or for our time incarnated. Saturn is “the only way out is through” & demands actual work for actual results. The resistance to this call is what yields the fatigue & depression Saturn is so infamous for. When you understand that this “only way out is through” is ultimately liberation from a poor fit, we can approach our task with determination and hopefully, joy, keeping our eyes pointed to the heights we aspire to, on the container that will truly be aligned with who we are. Anyone who’s climbed a mountain knows that some time is spent in the forest before the view opens up above the treeline. Saturn’s entry into Cap is only one part of the astro picture happening now.
