Today, I just saw a demonstration in a video of how the Emdrive is working. In the footage, the Emdrive is sitting on a rotating axle. It is clearly creating thrust as the Emdrive is spinning around. So, how is it creating thrust when there is no propellant coming out of the engine. Full disclosure from here on out, I will be putting forth hypotheses for the physics behind it without any grounded scientific principles for there is nothing in our current understanding of physics that can explain this phenomenon. 

With an introduction, The Beaches starts with “Blame My Ex” as the first song. A hard swinging track to start a very promising album. It is what you have come to expect from The Beaches. It is an evolution from their first hit, “Money”, and has the same vibe as their great “Late Show”. It is truly a song from the band we come to know and love.

The fifth song on the album, “My Body ft Your Lips (feat. Beach Weather and Your Lips)” is the most satisfying song. It is hypnotic and almost trance inducing. It sounds a bit of a blend of Lana del Rey’s sassiness and the coolness of The Neighbourhood. It has this Californian quality to it that I do not know how the band picked up given they are from Toronto.

The sixth track, “Kismet”, is full of energy and feistiness that any drama queen would be proud of. It has an attitude of that of mild Torontonian pretension. The chorus is addictive as that of cocaine or at least something else that you cannot buy legally. It is a song full of good vibe and is a charm of a track.

The next song, “Shower Beer”, is one of the best songs on the album. The swooning melody bathes you in sunshine and rainbows. The electric guitar by Kylie Miller is just pure ear candy. The songwriting is also some good stuff. They have grown not just as instrumentalists but as songwriters, as well.

“Edge of the Earth” has the flavour of The Killer’s slow pacing songs and reminds me of “Cody” from Pressure Machine. It also has the spirit of The Pretenders all throughout. It must be the strong personality and vocal of the female frontman, Jordan Miller. The guitar riff of this song is some of the best that music can produce right now. It is slower than the rest of the album which makes it stand out. And it is a great listen.

While “Cigarette” is youthful and vibrant. It reminds me of the best of Metric. Not only that, it has a tint of Paramore to it; sounding like “Rose-Colored Boy” and “Hard Times”. Also, it is melodic as Echosmith’s debut album, exhibiting their youth and wild hearts. But even though with the many semblances, the songwriting is all to themselves with unrestrained sexuality. 

Overall, the album is outright outstanding. One of the best listens you will find anywhere, current or otherwise. It is among the best albums from any rock band out there. Almost as good as the legendary records from The Killers and Coldplay like Sam’s Town and Viva La Vida, respectively.

Given all the great songs on this record, I cannot really dislike any of them. They are all amazing tunes and this record is worth your time, so give it a listen. 

P.S. 

I spent the morning reading and learning about the Emdrive. Roger Shawyer is the pioneer of it. It is sort of the elusive unicorn since it contradicts the law of the conversation of momentum. There have been many critics that claim that this Emdrive, a propulsion system that has no expelling propellant, cannot creates thrust. Yet, it somehow does so anyway. From what I have read, it is either a measuring error by Shawyer and NASA, not accounting for the thermal dissipation from the microwave emitter or that it is caused by the interaction between the magnetic field of the cables and the magnetic field of the Earth. Well there is one way to disprove these critics. We can simply measure the amount of thrust caused by an equal heat dissipated by some radiator that serves in stead of the microwave emitter, if it produces any thrust at all; the second accounting regarding the magnetic field created by the electric cable interacting with the Earth magnetic field, we can measure a dummy system where electricity is running through some cables with the same length, intensity, and changes in like that found in the Emdrive tests to see if any thrust created by simply having current running through some cables. If all these demonstrations prove that thrust cannot simply be created by heat or electric field then we can attribute all thrust to the Emdrive. To be clear, the same amount of thrust equaling the thrust of the Emdrive is needed to be demonstrated by the two dummy set ups to prove that the Emdrive simply does not work. 

I, on my part, believe there is evidently a thrust created by the Emdrive like Shawyer and NASA claimed. NASA cannot simply keep messing up their experiments even if you discount a British scientist’s claim. NASA has so far accounted for all possible outside factors in their measurements. That should rest the case.

I have a healthy dosage of skepticism for skeptics’ claims. I have a first hand account of that. When I was researching the plasma engine claimed by a pair of researchers from Wuhan University, I immediately saw the potential of the technology. One of the critics claimed that it is one thing to create enough thrust to lift a small ball up and another to lift a plane off the ground. But I see no difference at all. If it works on a micro level it should work on a macro level. And with that I moved my companies to buy the patents of the two researchers that invented the plasma engine and brought them aboard to my companies. Right now we successfully created a starship engine that burns oxygen vapour as fuel. And the researchers and engineers at CNSA have successfully demonstrated to be able to burn liquid oxygen within the perpetual motion engine from my engineering. It was not impressive enough to some that the plasma engine can only lift a ball up in the air, how about now when it is capable of lifting an entire colony starship. Atticiam Industries awarded two hundred billion dollars all together to the two Chinese researchers that discovered this. And on top of that the Chinese government awarded a trillion dollars to them. That is how impressive it is for a plasma engine to be able to lift a small ball.

I just spent the past two hours listening to Ohio Players by The Black Keys. This album has always been my top pick for work out last year. Whenever I am at the gym I would put this on while working out. It does a great job of keeping me pumped.

There are some amazing songs on this album. Right out the bat, “This is Nowhere” gives me the feeling of a caffeine high, full of energy but nowhere to channel it. The song keeps me on edge, like any great new rock song gives me. It is fresh even from the rest of what the rock genre offers. It has a different sound to it. But it is not just this song in particular, but the entire album gives me that freshness I sometimes crave from music. It is original and has a sound that is all to one’s own. 

The second song on the album, “Don’t Let Me Go”, is a groovy tune with big flavours. There is something about this song in particular that just gets you grooving to guitar and the melodic vocals. It is on right now and I cannot help but bop my head to it. The electric guitar especially is as lickin’ good as their best songs. It is an impressive kind of song and belongs to their other great works.

The third song, “Beautiful People (Stay High)" is as melodic as any of John Mayer’s songs from Sob Rock. The guitarist puts on a performance that is as original as it is wild to behold. And this song is the type that fits nicely to the sound of the band. I can even pick up a nice mesh of blues-rock and soul music. It is different in that regards to their other works but the overall performance is something that The Black Keys would only do. 

The fourth track on the album is “On The Game”, and it is the sort of songs that bring about foreign nostalgia with the vibe reminiscent of 1980’s rock. It is of the same spirit as that of Don Henley and Eric Clapton. Brothers of the same flavour if you will.

The eighth on this record is Please Me (Till I’m Satisfied). It is what any true song from The Black Keys would be. It has their signature whiny electric guitar and an overall feel of blues rock. It is one of the best tracks on this album and as exceptional as “Going Down South”.

I do not know why anyone has not thought of this before, but in physics when there is a change in magnetic field there is an electric field. Given that there is an ambipolar electric field around the earth, would this not mean that some or all of the effect of the Earth’s magnetic field creates an electric field around the planet.

The fluctuation of the magnetic field of the Earth is twenty five nanotesla in a given day. Would this by definition mean that there is a corresponding electric field created perpendicular to that change in the magnetic field of the Earth. It was only in 2021 that scientists from NASA confirmed that there is an electric field called the ambipolar electric field. But they stated that it was caused by the solar radiation from the Sun bombarding against the atoms in the atmosphere. I am not so certain about this. Given that the Earth’s magnetic field is constantly changing by plain logic there must be a corresponding electric field and this could be the cause of the ambipolar electric field around the Earth.

Okay, let us assume everything about the ambipolar electric field is correct, that it is in fact created by the solar radiation from the Sun knocking electrons from atmospheric gases like oxygen. Even so, the fact that there is a flux in the magnetic field of the magnetosphere, would simply mean there is a corresponding electric field being created. If not the ambipolar electric field, then another electric field around the Earth.

There was a study done in 2021 at the University of Chicago by Andrei Tokmakoff and colleagues showing a hybrid of covalent and hydrogen bond. In the research they were able to create this hybrid bond by sandwiching a hydrogen atom between two fluorine atoms. They call this group of atoms bifluoride ions. 

In the experiment, what was thought to be a covalent bond between the hydrogen atom and one fluorine and connected to the second fluorine atom through a hydrogen bond turned out to be something completely different when observed. 

An infrared light was used to shine upon bifluoride ions and instead of the energy levels of the spacing within the group of atoms decreasing, it actually increased instead. This shows that rather than a regular hydrogen bond, the connection between bifluoride ions is something else. 

Without further research and more data to be collected, it is hard to fully grasp what the characteristics of this bond might mean to the world. But what I do know is that in the hydrogen bonds found in water molecules, water is liquid at room temperature rather than a gas if there were no hydrogen bonds at all. From this, I can hypothesise that if we have a sample of bifluoride ions in abundance, it would theoretically be vapour at room temperature, or somewhere between the gaseousness of a gas and the liquidiness of a liquid. 

This could spell out a new understanding of how bonds are made between atoms and molecules. A new area of knowledge like this usually means a breakthrough in some research later on in the future. 

For one, if we could make bifluoride ions or other types of hybrid bonded pseudo molecules from other atoms other than fluorides this could prove to be revolutionary in breakthroughs of science. For example, we could use bifluoride ions in the perpetual motion engine or other arranged group of atoms that are of hybrid bonds. One, the vapour of a hybrid bonded pseudo molecules could have a higher expansion rate than that is found in liquid oxygen. This would mean a faster turbine spin of the internal motor of a perpetual motion engine translating directly to a more powerful engine. More horsepower and torque and more electricity. 

Also, relating to the perpetual motion engine, some of these pseudo molecules could be colder than liquid nitrogen and can cool down a quantum computer more effectively. Or even if it is not colder than liquid nitrogen, the possibility that it exists as a quasi transient state between gas and liquid could mean that as it channels through the LI-900 channel within the perpetual motion engine, it dissipates more heat, essentially equating to the same desired cooling for a quantum chip. 

But if this was the case, it would not be isolated only to applications regarding the quantum computer. We can cool down superconducting magnets like those found in magnetic levitation trains. Maybe even a temperature colder than what we can possibly attain now.

Getting back to the perpetual motion engine, in the new starship engine we are developing right now that uses no fuel, we could turn bifluoride ions or pseudo molecules like that into plasma ions within the LI-900 channel. One reason for this is that we might encounter problems with our conceptualised engineering. Our current blueprint is that we turn oxygen into plasma but then we would have the problem of converting it back into liquid form once it becomes plasma. By the very nature of oxygen becoming plasma, it loses electrons and thus it might prove difficult or even impossible to reattach the electrons back into the plasma for it to become an oxygen atom again. For the fact that the hybrid bond of pseudo molecules are weaker than a covalent bond, it might be easier to not only gasify the pseudo molecules and since there is no chemical bond it could very well be easier to reattach the ions back into their pseudo molecular state.

Another area of interest would be battery research. I do not know, but by the fact that breakthroughs in science are usually done by trial and error, we could obtain a better higher energy battery from these pseudo molecules. Though, there is not enough research done on bifluoride ions and other pseudo molecules, given that they have higher energy state than a regular molecule of covalent bond, which hypothetically means that it can store a higher amount of energy. 

Though what I failed to mention is that bifluoride ions only so far exist in an excited state where energy, in this case, an infrared light is shone upon. But this does not disqualify my hypotheses. In fact, if anything it could be argued that it is even better, for we can design energy to be put into the system to cause it to become this pseudo molecule. Moreover, at a reduced energy state the molecule will become liquid which we can store in the reservoir tank of the perpetual motion engine. 

Furthermore, if bifluoride ions exist only as a transient state we can hypothesise that many or even all liquids have also a transient state. What this means is that we have a better understanding of how liquid gasifies. Studying this even if this has no real applications still means that we have a better understanding of how atoms transition into liquid from vapour and vice versa. 

Right now in the development of our new colony starship engine, we have successfully turned liquid oxygen into plasma within the perpetual motion engine. However, we do not know how to turn plasma back to its original state. Studying this further might shed some much needed insight on our goal of developing the next space engine. For example, if we understand the transition of a pseudo molecule into a molecule, we could be able to understand more of how plasma ions of oxygen can turn back into liquid oxygen.

Instead of studying bifluoride ions, we can study oxygen ions and using similar parametres we can see how to place the electron back into plasma of oxygen for it to turn back into liquid oxygen. 

For example, instead of an LI-900 channel we would use the transparent aluminum to study the effects of channeling the plasma into a narrower and narrower hole. The fact that transparent aluminum is an insulator would mean that the free electrons must reattach back to the plasma ions as both channel through the narrowing hole.

The first science fiction novel I read was “The Chrysalids” by John Wyndham in grade nine. It was a really captivating story and full of intrigue. In fact, it really was the first novel that I liked. I was never much of a reader before and even after but that book got me to become a fan of science fiction. Now as an adult, I mostly read science fiction ‘cause it is a world unto itself. For my own online book club we just finished reading “Dune” and will be taking up the aforementioned “The Chrysalids” and “The Dispossessed”. I got a more cultured taste of science fiction when I took the science fiction night course I told you about. There were three books that left lasting impressions on me. I will be reading one of them again for the book, which is “The Dispossessed” by Ursula Le Guin. 

So what is so fascinating about science fiction? Well there is a lot there to unpack. One, it is about the future. Two, it has amazing worlds around unimaginable technologies that the best writers have thought up. The stories are usually above par where other genres shy away from like dystopia, or even utopia like in the novel written by Le Guin. The characters are fascinating, well rounded, and complex. So are the worlds. Like the novel “Dune”, where the world where the story takes place is the entire known universe. The worlds within science fiction are grand and full grandeur in terms of themes and technologies. I believe in terms of literature, it is the most captivating genre out there. There is nothing that would compare in terms of scale or complexity. 

My favourite science fiction novel would have to be the book by Le Guin. It is slow pacing but full of themes that retell the adversary dynamics of the Soviet Union and the United States during the Cold War. It is a book full of nuances and layers of inner motivations and drives. Though it is a science fiction novel, it reveals more about the world and humanity than any other book I have read. For those reasons, it is my all time favourite novel. I even use it as the name of my rock band.  

It was the first week of high school and I recently moved to a suburb in Toronto a few months back. I did not know anyone. It was the second day of school and I really have not made any friends yet. It was computer class after lunch when I went to class. A Chinese kid by the name of Tang came into my class pretending to be a classmate. Only to leave saying he has the wrong class. I was standing outside at the beginning of lunch the next day when he walked by and called me to go for lunch with him. Excited at the prospect of making a friend so I did. It is a funny thing ‘cause my sister paid him twenty dollars to become my friend. I never found this out ‘til now at forty one. 

Well, after that encounter in computer class, we quickly became friends and he introduced me to his friends that he made. He was a popular kid. He was also popular with the girls being tall and handsome. During that school year during the summer we would hang out often going to Wonderland in Vaughan and just eating out or going to the Yorkdale Mall. That summer we became best friends. Whenever he meets a new girl he would bring me along on a double date. Well, sort of. I was never interested in the girls his girlfriend brings along. I do not know why but everytime he meets someone he would bring me along as some sort of ice breaker. At least, that is what I am guessing. And every time I like someone he would be the first to know. We were the best of friends even though we never admit it to each other. 

There was this one time, when I liked my classmate Vantha who was a friend of his girlfriend in grade ten and we were walking home and he asked me. I told him I liked Vantha. And he asked me why. I stupidly told him ‘cause she has big boobs. I believe he actually already knew this from his girlfriend and he was trying to set me up with her. Well, anyway, I never did get with Vantha for by the guess of it my big boobs comment did not impress her at all. 

He never betrayed me nor did I, him. And we never really got angry at each other at all ‘til this one time I made fun of him in front of another friend for having a flat face. Well, he does not have a flat face, I do not know what got over me but he got really mad at me but kept it in. That week while we were waiting for the bus on Sheppard Ave he told me “I don’t have a best friend. I only have good friends, Minh”. Well, that was how mad he got at me. He never really vents out his frustration beside that time. 

We are often fascinated by science fiction like Star Trek, Star Wars and Blade Runner. In particular the technology that has always amazed me and I often wonder whether it is possible is the hologram. It is a common feature in the genre of science fiction and many screenwriters employ it in their movies to set their films in a futuristic age. 

I, myself, am a futurist. Ever since I became an engineer I have always believed it to be possible. It is no longer in the realm of speculation for me as I have theorised ways that hologram might be possible. I first believed it was through the physics behind a rainbow; how the filtering of light through water vapour can display the colour spectrum. However, recent articles on the study of the ambipolar electric field got me wondering if there is another way to create holograms.

Take for instance the aurora borealis that is found in the northern regions of the northern hemisphere. It is only found near the arctic where the Earth’s northern pole is located. This is due to the north magnetic pole of our planet. However, the aurora borealis is mostly seen to be stretching across the sky, probably in the path of our Earth’s magnetic field lines. If this is true, I theorise we can engineer holographic technologies based on the physics discovered from this phenomenon. 

Furthermore, the study of the ambipolar electric field of the atmosphere could be used as the foundational physics to build holographic technologies around. If indeed, both the aurora borealis and the ambipolar electric field travel in the path to the south pole like I have theorised yesterday, these might be the physics principles we need to realise holographic technologies. For one, that would mean the ions of the aurora borealis and the ions of the ambipolar electric field travel in the direction to the southern magnetic pole. We could artificially create a machine with two opposite poles of north and south and send ions of different gases in the path to the south pole of our machine causing holograms to appear and even move like that found in our atmosphere. 

It was during the night course I took at Ryerson University that I became enveloped by science fiction as a genre. Before then I was already a fan of the genre. But now after taking the night course on science fiction, I have a newfound appreciation for it. 

I remember we watched only one film during the entirety of the course. It was a black and white film that I thought was ridiculous. It was nonsensical at best, and quite frankly I thought it was some sort of theatre of the absurd. But the lecturer assured me it was actually science fiction in the style of film noir. There was this scene I do not remember fully, but a detective or something like that was chasing someone in his car and it kept cutting to a shot of a large industrial fan spinning. It was a really absurd film. But that did not turn me off from the genre at all.

During that course, we talked much about science fiction and got the chance to read five science fiction novels. I love them except for two which I did not bother finishing, the first,  ‘cause I do not even consider it to be science fiction; and the second, which for no other reasons besides boredom and laziness. But for the ones that I did read, they were amazing worlds. 

The lecturer also got us to do presentations regarding films and television shows that were science fiction based. They were all very fascinating and I learned that there were more in the fandom of science fiction than what I initially thought. For example, there is technically a university online somewhere on the internet based on Star Trek. There is even the religion of Jedism out there in the world. I know their existence should be taken lightheartedly but it is fascinating nonetheless that there are so many dedicated fans out there in the world. 

It is a film genre that has stood the test of time. Ever since the beginning of film, science fiction has always kept people’s interest. And with the creation of the show, Star Trek, it ushered in a mania of the amount of fans it garnered. And with the success of the first Star Wars, science fiction became something like that of a cult with so many fans oh so dedicated to the genre. It has even outlived the classic Western in film. Science fiction films were made as early as 1902 with “A Trip to the Moon”, and that was a silent black and white film. Now it has been over a century since then and even today it is still captivating audiences worldwide. 

As a huge fan of the genre, for my part, I introduced fantasy into it, making the first science fantasy shows and films, Postworld Warfare. I owe much credit to George Lucas and his popular Star Wars franchise for the idea. But the story has really come full circle with George asking me to write the next Star Wars film.
