“Couldn’t I just want to drop by and see how you’re doing?” Alma asked, taking a seat. “Am I that unwelcomed? You’re going to hurt my feelings.”

♕ ---- “I didn’t realize you had actual feelings that could be hurt, Carrow,” he said pausing only a moment to finish the sentence he had been reading before he looked in her direction. “What do you need, Alma?”

“So I noticed,” he smirked, reaching in his bag to pull out the file he’d brought with him. “I just wanted to give you back the paperwork on the case I needed help with. Sounds like my Dad took it over, so we won’t be needed it right now. Unless he comes and bothers you.”

♕ ---- Theo looked up at Ted and simply nodded. “If he comes and bothers me, I’d be happy to point out that his office had the information I collected but it was deemed unnecessary,” he remarked as he held out his hand for the file. “But I suppose I should say thank you for bringing it all the way back.”

“I like how it took an animal to take someone out because we haven’t done shit for over a year.” He plucked the newspaper from the other’s hands, scanning over the headline. “Who’s in charge of us again? Because I think it’s time for us break away from whoever it is.”

♕ ---- “No, of course, just take the newspaper as if I wasn’t reading it,” Theon said dryly and he reached for his drink with his now empty hand. “Break away and do what, exactly? Do you have a plan past that, mate? Or are you just complaining again?”

♕ ---- Carefully and neatly, he closed up the newspaper that he had been reading. “My little dark corner of the world is a little out of the way,” he gestured around himself. “What do you want,” the cursebreaker asked as he rested back in his seat. 

“I simply can’t. Deadlines, darling. The exist.” Anya held her hand out, expectantly, lips pursed slightly. “I don’t think that phrase is in my vocabulary, sadly.”

♕ ---- “Deadlines, seems like too much pressure.” He playfully pulled the folder back out of her reach. “That’s too bad. I spent all day trying to get this done for you. I could take these back with me. Bring my little cousin over to visit. She has a whole song to help you learn the phrase.”

“See. I’m tempted to say it’s not. Because if I say no and don’t get it, I can probably go home early.” Anya tilted her head to the side with a small pout, before gesturing for him to come in. “Oh, quit. Give it to me. You know I need it.”

♕ ---- “I’m sure if you wanted to go home early, you simply can.” Theon stepped back into the office and placed the folder down on the desk. “I know you do,” he said before he added in a slight teasing tone, “this is the part where you say thank you.”

“What you’re interrupting me for better be important,” she let out a breath, setting her coffee and files on her desk. “I’ve been in back-to-back meetings all morning and I can’t take anything less than dire.”

♕ ---- “Well if you consider the research and evidence you wanted not important, then I can see myself out, Patil.” Theon tucked the folder he had brought with him under his arm and pushed himself out of the casual lean he had against her door. “I’m sure it can wait,” he added with a snort as he took a step back.

“Good morning,” she started, walking down the hall, her heels clicking loudly as she did so. “I’m running on three hours of sleep and straight off of back-to-back court hearings the past two days.” Anya looked at the other, shifting the case files she was holding in her arms, lips pursed slightly. “Whatever you’re about to say better be good.”

♚ ---- Theon turned and raised a brow in Anya’s direction before he looked down at his watch to check the time. “It’s barely ten o’clock and you’ve done all that,” he asked with a hint of amusement before he chose his next words carefully. “Well you look amazing with only three hours of sleep,” he finally said with a smirk.

“Yeah, because knicking a few books is worth a degree. Some people don’t like half-assing stuff. Like you do, apparently.” He looked up at his friend, brow raised. “You know, that mindset’s kind of alarming considering you’re a cursebreaker.”

♚ ---- “You’re the one complaining about the workload. If you want the degree, have to do the work. Can’t have it easy and get what you want. I was simply pointing out what you could have done.” Theon tapped his finger against his glass and shrugged. “Some curses you need that sort of mentality to break them,” He said flatly before he finished his drink and sat up a bit. “What are you supposed to be studying anyway? Let’s see if we can find an easier way for your to process the information without you feeling like your brain is melting.”

“Tell me I was crazy for thinking I could juggle muggle med school while working as a healer.” Dylan stared blankly at his laptop for a moment, before closing it with a groan. He was just glad his boyfriend rearranged his work schedule for him so he could somewhat manage both. “I think my head’s about to implode.”

♚ ---- “You are absolutely mental for putting yourself through that work load,” Theon said without any pause or hesitation. “You already have medical education, you should have just apparated into one of their libraries, knicked a few books, and put them back once you were done with them. I highly doubt the muggles would have noticed.”

“Morning,” he said, a little too cheery, as he walked in, coffee in hand. Ryland was about to say something, but paused when he saw his friend leaning over something. “What are you working on? Or wait, lemme guess. Is this another one of those can’t tell you things?” @theonruncorn​​

♚ ---- If Theon could roll his eyes anymore than he already did at the tone at which Ryland took every morning he came into work, Theon feared his eyes would be permanently stuck that way. “I hope you brought me one if you’re going to put me through whatever level optimism you have right now,” he remarked and he pushed his goggles to the top of his head as he leaned back. “Studying blood curses,” he said not bothering with the why. “Did you that there are thousands of different types of blood curses in this country alone. Even more if you go further into Europe and Asia. And there’s quite a few based out of your stupid, bloody country,” he remarked not hiding the frustration in his tone. “Not to mention the hybrid curses that clever witches and wizards invented over the centuries.”

“Do we even know who’s in charge anymore? I feel like we aren’t doing anything,” Phoenix was complaining as he trailed after his friend, shrugging off the black robes. He looked over at the other man, eyebrow raised. “Theo. You with me?” He snapped his fingers in front of his face. “You looked zoned out for a second.”

♚ ---- Theon hadn’t realized that he was lost in his own thoughts until Phoenix snapped his fingers in front of his nose. He blinked and looked up at his friend as he rubbed his jaw. “Yeah, I am now,” he replied, “just dealing with a near impossible puzzle. I’ll get through it,” he shrugged it off. “I thought Alastor’s ego would have announced him as the leader,” he finally answered to show that a part of him was listening.

Cassie didn’t look up until he sat down beside her. She knew he was right. She couldn’t keep obsessing over it. Especially not now when she had more than just her physical well-being. “I know,” Cassie finally said, bringing the mug to her lips to take a careful sip. Once she sat it back on the coffee table, Cassie let out a breath and rested her head against her cousin’s shoulder. “I just hate it. I feel like she’s worse than she’s telling us. Or that one of us is walking around like a ticking time bomb.” She sniffled and reached up to wipe her eyes with the back of her sleeve. “I just can’t get any of this out of my head.”

♚ ---- His fingers drummed against the top of the couch that they sat on and slowly nodded at his cousin’s words. The whole thing that her family- their family- had to deal with wasn’t all that fair. Especially when he found that his aunt didn’t exactly deserve the hand that she was dealt. “You know mothers, always telling us what they think we need to hear,” he said before he plucked his handkerchief from his pocket and held it up for her to take. “We can only control what we can control.” He paused before adding in a teasing tone, “and you have a Weasley mutant in there to worry about.”

♚ ----“You need to stop beating yourself up over this,” was all he said as he set the mug of ginger tea down in front of his cousin. He settled down next to her and draped his arm around the back of her chair. “I know you’re worried about,” he cleared his throat, “you know, but stressing over it isn’t going to help in the long run. Not with curses like this.”

“I know it is,” he mused, looking at him. With a roll of his eyes, Dylan replied in a bored voice, “Wow. I’m so wounded.” He listened as the other man spoke, furrowing his brow as he leaned against the bar. “Can’t you just unlock it?”

It is, what is,” he countered before he looked over at his friend and couldn’t help but to wonder how Dylan managed to graduate from Hogwarts. Let alone the Healing program. “Yes, because unlocking a cursed object is just like a gym locker. Mate, you may need to drink more than I do.”

She wrinkled her nose. “Goblins. Lovely.” Daphne rolled her eyes fondly, pinching him in the side. “You’d be correct in assuming I’m not busy, yes.” She went to get her own coat. “This is purely a leisure outing and not you needing me to get you out of something stupid, yes?”

♚ ---- Theon pressed his lips together and reached out to grasp his mother’s hand when she pinched his side like he was ten again and causing trouble. “I’m happy to report that I don’t need your help with anything, mother,” he replied with a chuckle, “though the year is still early so that may change.”
