We are the lost and forgotten tales of glory.

It wasn’t long before he gave the command to set sail and soon enough they were on their way from the carnage. They’d made a good plunder and the gold would roll in. He breathed in the salty air letting it wash over him as the ship began to move from the smoke and debris. Only when he opened his eyes did he notice something in the water his eyebrow arched curiously it looked like a… girl of sorts? He was a lenient captain when it came to taking on survivors and he immediately made the call to stay the ship. The crew leapt into action as he tugged off his twin cutlasses and multiple pistols dropping them into a pile before he ran to the edge of the ship launching himself off and diving into the water. He took a moment to regain his bearings when he resurfaced but eventually began swimming towards the girl and once he was nearer he called. “Alright there lass?”

Honestly, she was lucky to have survived the ship's utter destruction, which wasn't that surprising, as many said she had luck running through her veins. And though she knew how easy it would be to cry out for help and be pulled onto the opposite boat, she also wasn't really enjoying the thought of being stuck on a pirate vessel, let alone if they even allowed her on. When she saw the man leap into the water, she just sighed, holding onto her sanctuary and waited. "Oh yes, stuck in the middle of the ocean was right where my plan was supposed to get me," she replied drily.

His eyebrow arched at her words curiously. “Oh? Strange in what way?” He seemed interested in what she meant by the wording though when the questioning returned to himself he looked down and back up to her. “I work in the police department - it’s a humble job… But it gets me by. We’ve had more work lately what with some of the incidents on the streets.” He explained smoothing down his jacket slightly. 

Liz smiled and shrugged. "Well I've met several actors just on the streets, walking to film sets. Musicians. Then there are just random people. I hear it's easier in places like L.A and New York City but Montreal is home." Liz's eyes lit up. "Oh a policeman. Well I thank you for keeping our streets safe... especially with Montreal's crime rate. Is it dangerous sometimes?"

His thumbs hooked slightly into his pockets as he stood there. “I suppose not… But either way I never thought I’d meet you in the flesh - let alone… Walking my dog.” He shook his head a little disbelievingly. “It’s easier when you’re one of a larger part I suppose. Once I’m in uniform I’m just another one of the regulars. Nothing special.”

She laughed again, waving a hand as if waving his words away. "It's Montreal. You're bound to meet enough people, though I will say walking my dog.. I've met plenty of strange people out and about." She tilted her head curiously. "Oh uniform? What do you do?"

He nodded rocking back slightly onto his heels. “Yeah, I taught him well I guess.” When she held out her hand he took it politely and shook it before letting it go and letting his hand fall back down to his side. “Well important person but you’re probably one of the most important person in this city no?” He smiled slightly as she said about helping people. “I suppose we all do our own bit to help out don’t we? I do mine in a little way I suppose though I tend to fly under the radar.”

Liz smiled, settling her hands by her sides with a nod. "One of the most yes, I suppose now that I am the head of the business. But it never really sinks in too quickly." She shrugged, pursing her lips. "We all should at least. I am glad that you do your part. But when you are like me.. well, I've never been under the radar."

"Maybe we will." At the recognition he nodded his head. "No no don’t apologise, like I say not many people recognise it. But the original stories were published in magazines actually. He’s a fan of the buccaneer-esque, monster hunter tales. Though it was made into a film which he also enjoys." He gently took Pippin’s paws setting them back down on the ground before pushing himself up. "Oh gosh. I’m sorry. Max. Max Knight ma’am." Though at her introduction his eyes widened and he immediately stood up a little straighter out of habit. "Wow… it looks like I’m in the presence of a celebrity." He laughed awkwardly looking down at Kane who had returned to his side. "It’s a pleasure to meet you ma’am… I’ve heard a lot of grand things about you."

"Oh really?" Liz asked, curiously. "Sounds like the type of stories I like as well to be honest. Your brother has great taste." She held out a hand for him to shake. "It's lovely to meet you Max." There was chuckle at his use of celebrity. "I suppose you could call me that. I rather more like the sound of being just a very important person." Liz snapped and Pippin returned to her side. "Grand things? I suppose I do, though I'm only able to because of my position. Helping people is kind of a talent I have."

Max wasn’t fazed in the slightest by Pippin’s behaviour and Max was more than happy to ruffle Pippin’s fur affectionately just how Kane enjoyed him doing. “That’s a shame. Maybe if you ever got another one - you could call that one Merry.” He smiled at her comment. “Yes he is rather.” His eyes moved down to Kane. “Solomon Kane. It’s a favourite of my little brother’s. He insisted if ever I got I dog I call him it.” He explained. “And when I got him I kept the promise.”

"Maybe. It always depends on the dog," she replied with a slight shrug. "Though I am growing more fond of other names. We will see." A slight hint of recognition crossed over Liz's eyes. "That was a movie right? Sorry, I am not terribly great with pop culture, too much work. But that is cute, and as you should. Promises should be kept." She reluctantly stood up, finishing off with a pat of Kane's head. "But now that I know about you dog.. what is your name? I'm Liz Queen," she introduced herself with a smile. Her name was one most knew in the city, if not her face.

Max laughed as Pippin leapt up putting his paws on his knees and he began gently stroking his hands down the other dog’s back. “Pippin? Well, I’d have to say after Pippin from Lord of the Rings no? An amazing set of books in my opinion. I’d ask if you can guess where Kane is from but no one usually manages it.” He chuckled.

She was slightly embarrassed at Pippin, but she knew she could never get him to obey with affection was involved. "Yes, that exact Pippin. I was going to name another Merry but none of them fit. Tolkien is an amazing author." Liz shrugged. "Honestly, no I don't. But please, inform me?"

He held up her own ball that he carried nodding. “Yeah that’s mine.” He nodded taking the ball from her outstretched hand and letting her take her own back before he pocketed his own watching as she looked down. “Yours is lovely too ma’am. Not often you see them around these parts I’d say.” He glanced back down to Kane who was by not licking her hand his tail wagging back and forth. “Kane. What’s yours?” He inquired curiously crouching down so that he could scratch Pippin behind the ear.

When the other dog started licking her hand, she reached and scratched him behind the ear, a grin on her face. "Kane. Kane's a lovely name." As soon as Max crouched down Pippin leapt up to put his front paws on his knees, liking to be on level would he could. "Oh. I named him Pippin. Can you guess why?" she added with a light laugh, then looked around and frowned. "Coucher!"

However on this particular throw he put a little too much distance into it and Kane shot off, however before he could get the ball it was intercepted by another dog who was being called after by their owner whilst Kane went off course to fetch the ball that belonged to the woman who seemed to be reprimanding her dog. He raised his fingers to his mouth and blew a shrill whistle the sound causing Kane to turn tail with the ball and bolt back dropping into a sitting position at his feet. “Drop it.” He commaned and immediately the ball dropped to the floor. Crouching down and picking it up he started towards the woman looking apologetic as Kane trotted close at his heels. “Sorry about that ma’am. I believe this belongs to you.

"And this belongs to you," she clarified, offering the ball and using her other hand to take the her own. She smiled easily, looking down to get a better look at his dog. "He's really gorgeous. A great coat," she spouted out, kneeling and offering a hand to sniff. "What's his name?"

Once he had a hold of Kane’s leash and took a sip of his tea Max set off down the pavement his pace steady and Kane trotting alongside until they reached the park. It was a nice morning now that the sun was on its way up and the city was gradually gaining more life. Making sure the gate was shut behind him once he entered the park he motioned for Kane to sit and as directed he obeyed. Unclipping the leash Max drew out a ball from his pocket grinning as he drew his arm back quickly bringing the ball forwards sending it off across the park. Though Kane didn’t move until Max called in a rather distinct Irish accent. “Go on boy! Go get it!”

From there they started a simple game of fetch, sometimes Liz running out to pretend to try and get the ball before him, until Liz got tired and just let him go get it. Seemingly from nowhere though another ball appeared, and Pippin's ears perked up as he sprinted off to get it. "Non! Non! Ici Pippin," she commanded in a loud voice, started to walk towards where Pippin was holding the ball that he wasn't supposed to be. "That is not yours," she reprimanded. "Donne. Now." The ball dropped from Pippin's mouth dejectedly as he walked over to her, head bowed.

"Oh does he now?" He took Nick from Liz as she passed him along adjusting his grip so Nick was secure before lifting him up above his head making aeroplane sounds as he walked around with Nick causing the little dark haired boy to giggle and squeal contently as he went through the air.

"Oh yes, he does. He has his mother's love of flying.. let's just hope he's not afraid of heights like her as well." Liz passed him to Max, and after sitting for a moment, stood up and followed them with the camera. She eventually sat it down though and just enjoyed watching them, the happiness radiating off of Nick contagious to all of them.

He giggled again as Liz picked up up and touched noses with him, and Max in the mean time was content to take photos. “Look at our little boy. He’s growing up.” He commented brightly as Nick held out his hands having been used to Max helping him to pretend to be an aeroplane from time to time.

"Looks like our song wants to fly around a bit." She passed Nick along to Max, taking the camera instead snapping a couple of photos, though mainly she was just watching the two of them.
