Not Enough.

“I know most of you assume I’m an idiot because of the drugs, but I can tell you are lying, you know.” Klaus called him out. “If you want to talk, talk.”

Diego gave the other an irritated look.  “I don’t think you’re an idiot Klaus.  I think you’ve got your own trauma to fuck around with rather than having to hear about mine.  But sure, yeah, I’m lying.  I can’t sleep for shit and I refuse to see a therapist.”

“So if you don’t have any ideas then let’s go with my plan, it seems like it’s the only one we have”.

“Alright.  Either way, it’s not gonna end well.  But hey, that’s the fun part I guess; seeing how badly things go up in flames.”

“That was all on you for thinking I could actually handle the laundry on my own.”He shrugged before nodding. “I see. What’s going on?”

Diego chuckled a little before shaking his head. “In reality, it’s nothing. I’ll be fine.  Just memories and...well. It’s stupid.  I shouldn’t be so on edge.”

“Have any smart ideas than, huh?”.

“Smart ideas?  Nah.”

“This isn’t the first time you’ve tried to kill me with your little knives, Diego. Like, seriously., I said I was sorry for taking that jacket when we were six. Let it go.”

“Never.  That was my favorite jacket.”  Diego smirked at the other before sighing.  “Sorry, seriously.  Just been on edge.”

“There was nothing comfortable about that basement. But I’ll give you that no one would try rob it. The knives were the most valuable thing, and only an idiot would try take one of your knives.” With that thought, she took a step back and narrowed her eyes at him, joking. “How many do you have stashed around this place?”

“Psh, you just didn’t get the allure of my bachelor pad.”  He smirked softly at her before lifting an eyebrow.  “Do you even want to guess?”

“Fine, but that doesn’t mean I’m giving up.” Eudora knew she’d never be able to fix him, as such, but she didn’t want him to feel like he wasn’t enough, not anymore. His family was so messed up, but she could try be someone normal for him. “The basement sucked, Diego. Had absolutely no security at all, but then again, who would decide to try rob that place? It was a mess.”

“I didn’t expect you would.”  Diego thought she was thinking better of him than she should, but he appreciated it.  Maybe someone telling him he was alright would be good for him.  “That basement was perfect.  My knives are security alone, plus...nothing to take anyways, so, safest and most comfortable living arrangements ever.”

“I see and you aren’t just annoying.” Klaus smiled at his brother before nodding at him. “Yeah, I know. I’m trying not to but you know for a while there, I just didn’t think I had anything to live for. Everything just felt hopeless.”

“Now you’re just lying to me Klaus.  Being an irritating dick is all my personality has.  Can’t take it away from me now.”  Diego smirked before sighing.  “You had shit to live for Klaus.  We all were just...too wrapped up in our own shit to see everyone else was struggling too.   But I’m glad you didn’t do anything stupid.  At the very least I wouldn’t know what to do without knowing you were somewhere out there in the world.”

“you can’t tame me it’s like trying to leash a dolphin.”

“Can’t say I had any interest in taming you but sure.  Can’t be tamed and shit. Right.”

“Look at that,  you aren’t just good at throwing knives.” He joked with his brother before shrugging. “Yeah, I know. I’m trying, man. I just gave up. I felt like I had nothing to live for and I didn’t seem the point anymore but here, I feel like I do have something to live for.”

Diego smirked and shrugged. “I’ve a few other talents, though I do prefer the knives.”  Listening to the other, he understood the feeling.  If he hadn’t thrown himself into his vigilante activities and cared about Eudora, he likely would’ve given up as well.  “You shouldn’t ever give up Klaus, but I get it.  I’m glad you’ve got purpose again.’

“No you wouldn’t. I would be worried you were sick or something.”He admitted before looking over at his brother and sighed. “I don’t want to admit that you are right, but I will agree that I should follow your advice.”

"That’s fair.”  Diego smirked darkly before it shifted to a soft smile.  “I can accept that.  And I do tend to give good advice from time to time.  You should take care of yourself Klaus. Really.”  He nodded curtly and looked away, far too close to being soft now.  “It’s your life though, so...do what you want..”

Eudora really could kill his father, if she ever got the chance. Making Diego feel like this, it just wasn’t acceptable. “Diego, listen to me. I will list all your good qualities if you want me to, because there’s more than the charm - which is not as charming as you think - and yes, fine, you’re hot.” She smiled into the kiss, wrapping her arms around his neck. “It’s a lot better than the basement of the gym that you lived in before, I’ll give you that.” She teased. 

“You are frustrating me now. Let’s just move on from this subject.” HE told him before shrugging. “Yeah I know but it is still weird. Dave is perfect and I don’t really remember the last time I was happy.”

“Which is how it should be.  Would I really be me if I wasn’t pissing you off?”  Diego cocked his head and smirked a little before it softened to a smile.  “Maybe so, but being happy is good.  And we’ll see about Dave being perfect.  He’s been exposed to you and your general crazy, but not the whole fam, so the rest of us are gonna have to vet this guy.  Make sure he’s capable. But, he cares about you.  And...you should let yourself be happy Klaus.”

It was all the agreement she was going to get from him, she knew that, and accepted it. Eudora shook her head. “No, it’s not just the unappealing qualities. But you’re going to get a big head if I tell you that I love how caring you are.” Most people didn’t see it, but she did. Even if they disagreed on how to get justice, he was always there for people who needed protection. “Uh huh, I know exactly what you’re thinking about doing on the floor, but there is a perfectly good bed not far from here.” 

“Shit happens, man. We didn’t know Five was going to have killer idiots after him, did we?” He told him before shrugging. “I don’t know. I’m not the same person I was when he met me.”

“No, but i still pointed her right at the killer idiots.”  Diego shook his head before lifting an eyebrow.  “Maybe not, but you’re still essentially Klaus.  If someone has told you they love you, they love you brother.”
