Hi everyone,

As you may by now be aware, on the 3rd of Feb, 2019, our dear Kizzy (Kizmetto #59149, @duskthicketbonepicker), passed away from bowel cancer.

Kiz meant a lot to a lot of people. She was always kind and generous and never had an unkind word to say about anyone. We understand that she impacted many people, whether you knew her for years, or just enjoyed her dragons, art, or tumblr posts coming up on your dash.

We would like to organise a tribute to her from the FR community that meant so much to her. Our plan is to buy one of those giant condolence cards, and fill it with messages from anyone online that would like to leave a message. Shadowdawn199 (#148774) @enchantinggoblin is planning to attend Kiz’s funeral, and will deliver the card to Kizzy’s parents and family.

So, if you would like to have your message included, please send it via tumblr ask, or FR pm, to one of us:

We will print the messages and glue/attach it into the card. You are also welcome to include handwritten messages, or even drawings if you like. It will just need to be scanned/photographed so we can print it out.

Please remember that we will be delivering this to, and it will be read by, her parents and family, so keep all messages respectful and appropriate.

We don’t know the funeral date just yet, so we would kindly ask for you to get your messages in to us as soon as possible, so we can get the card ready.

I like participating in dom things, earning (user-made) badges in (user-made) events (because fuckin’ forbid the actual site make any cool events or collectable shit) (achievement system still broken lol). I like collecting coli crates. all that with beta coli’s mechanics? slow fucking mole asses

The few minutes I played it, it was way too slow for my liking. Like, way too slow.

It’s literally the exact opposite of an optimization, and is objectively terrible from a game design perspective. Let me explain.

It forces a deload and reload of assets that don’t need to be reloaded. Including:

Things outside the coli window:

Site logo

Top banner

Site background

Left side navigation menu and links

Ad spaces

News ticker in the top right

Player avatar and banner

Player currency counts

Message / Friend Requests / Notifications bar

Site clock

Players online count

Thing inside the coli window that are unchanged between battles:

Venue background

Coli frame

Coli buttons

Coli menus

Dragon images

Dragon data (battle stones + stats)

Health and breath bars

Damage calc equations

All of those things don’t need to be altered or reloaded between battles. The things that do need to be reloaded between battles are:

Enemy images

Enemy data

Turn order

That’s literally it.

It’s incredibly inefficient to reload 95% of the page’s code just to get the 5% that needs changing to be reloaded. It causes more strain on the servers and browser alike, since the server needs to send all that data every single reload, and the browser has to load it all basically from scratch. It causes lag and hogs resources on both ends. It’s just generally just objectively terrible game design, and the exact opposite of an optimization.

Why would you need to reload so many things that don’t need to be reloaded just to reload the enemies and turn order? It really shouldn’t have to happen under any circumstances. There should be a way to refresh just the things that need refreshing, the way the old coli did.

I understand that there might be additional data that makes it so the entire new coli can’t be loaded at once like the old one, but if there is so much junk data that only one battle can be loaded per page refresh then there is something very wrong with the code and it needs to be seriously reworked before release.
