YEARS

Hi Hello It’s 2018, you’re still here. So are we. Almost six years ago, we released our first record, It Can Kill. Aside from another album’s worth of Xmas tunes, we haven’t released a second of new music since. But We have been working. In bursts, here and there, we collected another album’s worth of songs. Distance, however, slowed our progress down quite a bit. This past holiday season, we wrote and recorded a new song in three days. It was the fastest we’d ever seen an idea through to completion. This brings us to right now. We have decided to release our new record two songs at a time, starting now. Each month, we’ll be polishing off two new tunes to share with you. In an effort to honor who we were when we started this project, we’re going to be finishing off the old tunes we’ve been living with for years. But, not to neglect our current selves, we’re going to be writing brand new jams as well. A little bit of the old, “Something old, something new.” At the end of this project, we will be selecting our favorites of the bunch to make up the definitive version of our second record. The rest, will sleep soundly on your devices and in the waves of the interweb. Thanks for sticking with us. We’re excited to share with you what we’ve been doing. What do you do when the thing that keeps you going seems to fall apart in front of you and there's nothing you can do to stop it? When Adam, Tory, Zach and I started this band eight years ago, we somehow fooled ourselves into thinking we'd just do it as a joke to make money. Our first show was a benefit show. Oops. Eight years later, none of us has ever walked away from a show with money in our pockets. What do we have to show for this time? I can't speak for Adam, Duane, and Tory, but I can say I've had the most supportive, and best friends I've ever known. I can say I have some of the best memories of my life. I can also say I have some songs I'm incredibly proud of. Four years ago (good lord, how is that possible) we put out It Can Kill. We spent four years making that record. Not the fastest horse in the race. So what has happened since 2012? If you were with us then, you probably know we played quite a bit after we released the record. It was a beautiful time, and everything seemed promising. Really, we were just happy to be making music together. Then we saw things start to fall apart. At the end of 2012, we decided to take a break from shows to work on new music. Duane moved to Chicago. I thought we were done, but he came down from time to time, and we made slow but steady progress. In 2014, Tory moved to California. I really thought that was it. We had three or four songs, but no drummer, and none of us lived in the same town anymore. We barely saw each other, and our last show was attended by four people (this is my fault, I did zero promotion, the wind had really been knocked out of my sails). Since then, we've released a few Christmas tunes and played exactly two shows. To sum it up, in the time since we put out our record various members started relationships, got divorced, fell in love, had our hearts broken, moved, got new jobs, lost our faith, went back to school, got depressed, etc. It's been a rough few years. What did we do when we saw the thing that kept us going falling apart in front of our eyes? We found a new way to love it. We decided since we loved it so much, we would find a way to make it work. It sounds so cliche, but speaking for myself, there have been many times in these four years where this music is the only thing that has felt good. So, we said, "Fuck it." This is too important to let fade away anymore than it already has. We decided Tory living in California wasn't going to be enough to keep him from being in the band. We started scheduling weekends where we could get together and focus on this music. And the tunes started taking shape. There is a new record coming. And we love it. We'll talk a lot more about it when it's appropriate, but we believe in each other, and we believe in these songs. YEARS died a painful death. YEARS is here forever. Jordan August 22, 2016

We had a lovely time last Saturday night at Hoosier Dome. Even though we may have shown our age a little we had fun hanging out with everyone, too. Thanks to Mason Alexander for the photo! We've started building a 5' drum riser so Tory can make it into more photos.

We had a great year last year. Busy. We released "It Can Kill" in May of 2012 and played 27 shows in the following 29 weeks. That's a lot of shows for an independent band (we all have full-time jobs, you know!). Needless to say, it was time for a quick breather. We usually hibernate a little each winter anyways and begin thinking about what's next for the band and start writing new songs. It's harder to get out and load gear in the winter and our cars need a rest, anyway. Happily, we are already shifting out of low gear and making preparations to have an even bigger 2013! That means new music and more shows. New friends and old. New venues (and old). Miles on our cars. Swisher Sweets. 5am bedtimes (we really are getting too old for that...). We can't wait to hang out with you guys soon - and to share some new tunes! -Sweetie, Cupcake, and The Babies. Here's a little memory from last year...
