IVE BEEN WAITING ALL YEAR TO POST THIS YOU DONT EVEN KNOW
Iâm crying.Â
i scheduled this a year ago..
Scheduling for every year
on this day one year ago someone sewed a fried egg to a tshirt
this is your only day to reblog this for a year
i missed my chance last year so this has been in my queue for 364 days
I wish I knew the exact time and date that harry told snape âthereâs no need to call me sir professorâ so that I could take a moment of silence to remember the moment each year
Judging from the context of the chapterâŚ
We know that itâs September 2nd. Iâd put it between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM. (They have breakfast and then a free period. They have Snapeâs class before their break, which was before their lunch.)
But in the UK first period typically only starts at 9 AM. So free period from around 9-10 AM and Snapes class from 10-11 AM Iâd say.
Okay so 10am-11am every September 2nd is now an hour dedicated to remembering the most glorious piece of dialogue ever spoken by a fictional character
ok this just appeared on my blog with ample time for you all to prepare because apparently I stumbled across it months ago, and scheduled it to post on september first. executive function TRIUMPH!!!!!!!
Worth noting that tomorrow is the 20th anniversary of the greatest burn in history
You Can Only Reblog This Once A Year At One Time Of Day
Happy Jeremy Bearimy Day!

A VERY MERRY UNBIRTHDAY TO YOU
tis not my birthday
when did LMM say the N-word?
In the Hamiltome audiobook (chapter 36, 11:33).Â
Over a relatively short amount of time the N-word has evolved from a bit of Latin to one of the most controversial words in the English language, enough so that some college professor had an entire course on that one word (they probably didnât use many asterisks). People have lost their jobs over that one word. And now Lin-Manuel Miranda is in sort-of trouble for usage of that one word.Â
To clarify: Lin used the N-word while reading an audiobook. He was reading a line spoken by his sufficiently black friend, who probably gave him permission to repeat it for the audiobook. I am not completely familiar with audiobook procedure, but I believe it involves reading the book aloud. All of it. As is. And while a word may be censored in the text, itâs hard to properly censor a word in an audiobook. Yes, the word could have been bleeped, but you donât bleep in audiobooks (unless the text calls for it).Â
General consensus seems to be that context is of the essence when using the N-word. Non-black person tossing it carelessly about in conversation? No. Academic paper, in academic context? Yes. Non-black person using it in a book/play/script? Every case is separate. For instance, while one might feel uncomfortable hearing Underground character Suzanna Macon use the word, itâs the right one to use, because an 18th century lady wouldnât talk about her âAfrican-Americanâ slaves. South Park had an episode specifically about the N-word, and âWith Apologies to Jesse Jacksonâ was generally lauded, and the conversation at the end bears repeating:
Stan: âWait a minute. Thatâs it. I donât get it.â
Kyle: âHuh?â
Stan: âDonât you see, Kyle? I donât get it! Token, I get it now. I donât get it. Iâve been trying to say that I understand how you feel, but Iâll never understand. Iâll never really get how it feels for a black person to have somebody use the âNâ word. I donât get it.â
Token: âNow you get it, Stan.â
Stan: âYeah, I totally donât get it.â
Token: âThanks, dude.â
I definitely learned something that day.
tl;dr:Â Use of the N-bomb depends heavily on context, and IMO this case is acceptable. If other people disagree, then they are welcome to. Nobody should be afraid to have an opinion.
By the way, has anyone actually bothered to confront Lin about this, or did they all go straight to the comments? I believe this is a valid question.
âTheir jobsâ ? People, black people have lost their lives over that word and what it stands for. Itâs an antiblack slur, used to assert control and humiliation over us. No controversy about that. Which means it can only be reclaimed by and for black people.Â
And the word was censored in the text but they couldnât do it in the audiobook ? Really ? Yes, it would have been easy to bleep it or just say âthe n wordâ, and the text did call for it.Â
Again, this is a slur. A slap in the face for most of us black fans (or ex-fans) of Hamilton. This non black artist, who has been in the spotlight, whose work has been called revolutionary, who has a huge platform is using an antiblack slur on an audiobook thatâs going to be widely distributed.Â
So maybe Daveed is okay with that. Thatâs one black man. What about the rest of us ? Even if itâs not deliberate, it sets an example that justify the use of the n word by non black people and is just a big fuck you to black people.
Your third paragraph perplexes me. Itâs just not relevant to the situation at hand (and I might add that in most of the cases you described, the use of the word isnât actually necessary. Why use a slur when it is not necessary ?).Â
Iâm neither the only nor the first black person (in the Hamilton fandom or otherwise) who has come forward and said they didnât want this word used outside of slur reclaimation. And IMO what should prevail is what the people actually affected by the slur are saying, especially when they are calling out harmful behavior. But whatever thanks for lecturing a black slave descendant on that, I guess.
To answer your question, I know people messaged him via twitter. If you want to confont him about it go ahead. But Lin is a grown ass man who was raised in New York, he isnât clueless (which makes what he did even more hurtful).Â
Why did you feel compelled to write an essay defending a non black personâs use of the n word ? I believe this is a valid question.
âTheir jobsâ ? People, black people have lost their lives over that word and what it stands for.Â
Thank you for pointing that out. My angle clearly distracted me from that fact, and I hope you accept my apology.Â
Why did you feel compelled to write an essay defending a non black personâs use of the n word ? I believe this is a valid question.
Extremely valid question. I felt compelled to defend the usage of a word in an audiobook. As I mentioned to someone else, the word in question is rendered in the text as ân***a,â because thatâs how the word is most commonly written (also, they wanted to offend as few people as possible). Only the most dense of readers would need help figuring out what the asterisks mean. âN[bleep]aâ is more difficult to understand, and is also easier to confuse with the six-letter variant. Additionally, it would change the thought process of the listener: âlisten listen listen wait what was that bleep oh thatâs what it was I think listen listen.â It throws one off kilter, and interferes with flow and the intimacy that libretto notes provide, and which Lin intended.
Or maybe Lin did want a bleep, but was convinced otherwise. God knows.
So maybe Daveed is okay with that. Thatâs one black man. What about the rest of us ?
Another good point. I think a lot of this comes down to the fact that other groups have no equivalent of the N-word and so cannot and likely never will fully understand what it means. Results of this include someoneâs decision to have Lin say ân***a.â
To answer your question, I know people messaged him via twitter. If you want to confont him about it go ahead.Â
Thank you for informing me that people have messaged Lin about this messâI have nothing to say to him; I simply wanted to know.
But Lin is a grown ass man who was raised in New York, he isnât cluelessÂ
But he probably does have the inherent cluelessness that non-black people have in regard to the N-word. This is not a defense, this is an acknowledgement of the fact that Iâve got a lot more research to do.
I also thank you for remaining civil and being patient.Â
I get your point about the bleeping. However as I pointed out, even without it being bleeped out, he could have simply said âthe n wordâ. This would not have changed the meaning significantly. And I doubt that much listeners actually wish to hear that particular word said out loud. Itâs not a stretch since itâs also often just written as ân****â. The solution chosen disregards the experience of black listeners with this slur in order not to cause discomfort to non-black listeners, when there was a way to do neither.
Non-black people need to educate themselves on these issues and learn what multiple black people have said about this.
destroy the idea of the âaverage fatherâ coveting his daughterâs virginity and âprotective brotherâ making sure no men lay their unholy eyes upon his sister who has given them full permission.
slaughter the idea that men are allowed to be gatekeepers for sex and have a duty or a right to âsave women from themselvesâ when it comes to sex
kill the purity myth

People being genuinely nice to me freaks me out. You want to drive me home because it rains, even if that would take you 5 min longer to get home yourself? You are waiting 30 sec for me to pack my things after class so we can leave together? You acknowledge my existence in a positive manner?
I always feel like I owe them something after that which I can't live up to, but apparently people are sometimes just nice without expecting something in return or secretly being annoyed with you

no one ever talks about the part of adhd where everyone in your class has got their group of friends and youâre just there, mindlessly tagging along with anyone who is willing to put up with you for a few minutes. either youâre too loud or too quiet. if youâre lucky, it wonât affect you much. youâre a loner, so what? but then the moments come around where you find yourself yearning to be like the others. youâre not depressed, why would you be? youâre a child who just happens to be a little different. sure, youâre usually the last choice when it comes to groups and youâre rarely, if ever, invited to birthday parties but⌠itâs alright. everything is fine. or is it?
for the people questioning whether this really is part of adhd or not
In case anyone was wondering, this is Dr. Russell Barkley, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist and expert on ADHD.Â
This quote comes from his lecture â30 Essential Ideas You Should Know about ADHD,â which you can find on YouTube as a 27-video playlist. This part is specifically in the second video of that playlist (about 8 minutes in).
I highly recommend watching these videos. If you canât focus that long (I canât, lol), then open the transcripts and read through them. Lots of info.
