Some people say hope is a bright light. A star to lead their course out the dark.

Others say hope is a savior, a hero who will change the world… and show us a future so wonderful we can’t even remember why or when we were scared at all.

I beg to differ.

Hope stands up once again, with blood on her knuckles, as she spits out another tooth.

Hope is the sound of chains that bind when they’re hit with a rock. Hope is the searing of flesh as the wound cauterizes.

Hope is You, when no one else will save you.

Hope is every step you take and every tear you shed.

Hope is the sound of your scream into the night and the cracking of knuckles.

Hope is not your gift. It’s a trait. Make sure you have a lot of it.
