Heart of Atlantis
Cheshire Cat
The Heart of Atlantis :: Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001)
It's such a cool, weird, inexplicable thing--it may be sentient, given all of the spirits of Atlanteans inside of it, or at least Kida's mom (as it does give Kida's childhood bracelet to her after releasing her), it not only keeps Atlantis alive but the shards it empowers makes them basically immortal, a mere PIECE OF GLASS touched by it is enough to turn a man to crystal in one of Disney's more horrifying and explicit deaths, not to mention Kida's whole transformation with it is an absolutely beautiful sequence both visually and soundtrack-wise. (I suppose crystal Kida would also work here, but they're kind of the same thing)
The Cheshire Cat :: Alice in Wonderland (1951)

ROUND 1 — Match 273 of 276
Tybalt (Romeo & Juliet)
Problematic because: "kills Mercutio (<-fan favorite character)" Propaganda: "HEAR ME OUT Tyblat is actually so much more reasonable and level-headed than anyone gives him credit for. I hate that he's boiled down to 'guy with anger issues' when he distinctly DOESN'T have anger issues. he's raised in a family dynamic where if you're a man from either Capulet or Montague and you come across another man from either family, you just fight them on the spot. that's the norm for him. that's what he grew up in. and then everyone around him is giving him mixed signals about what the acceptable things to do are. he sees romeo at the party and goes 'right so my job is to fight him!' and his uncle pulls him aside and goes 'no actually we don't fight romeo because he's kinda pathetic. he's not an actual threat. he's too busy obsessing over girls who don't like him back.' so tybalt goes 'oh. ok.' and recalibrates. and then later on when he once again believes that his proper role and job would be to fight romeo, mercutio steps in and goes 'nah man, you're not fighting romeo. fight me instead!!' and tybalt REPEATEDLY REFUSES. mercutio provokes him over and over again and tybalt is able to keep his goal in mind. me personally, if mercutio were talking to ME like that, I'd have fought him. mercutio's 100% the instigator. idk man I just. tybalt's significantly more reasonable that the guys in the opening of the play. he's significantly more reasonable than mercutio. he's trying to do whatever his family would consider right and proper. I just feel bad for him. he's really out here with the reputation of a guy who can't control his temper when he's got a lot more control than most of these other guys."
vs. Sampo Koski (Honkai: Star Rail)
Problematic because: "he’s introduced as a helpful shady guy on jarilo-vi, but even when he rescues the astral express crew from the silvermane guards, he does it by knocking them out with a smoke bomb made from “questionable ingredients,” which is a very sampo way to help someone. he’s basically a silver-tongued salesman who’ll do anything if there’s profit in it, and becoming his “customer” can very quickly turn into becoming his “commodity.” his lore has a whole “dark-blue scam victims’ association,” people furious at him for stealing/scamming, and little stories where he’s tied to fake identities, getting sensitive information out of people, and setting other criminals up for jobs that go wrong. in hook’s companion mission, the stolen vein detector is being taken to sampo to sell, so even in a quest about helping a child recover her dad’s property, he’s still nearby like the local suspicious middleman. the deeper weirdness is that sampo isn’t just some random belobog scammer either - hes implied to be connected to the masked fools and the path of elation, so he basically might be a powerful follower of the god of laughter and chaos" Propaganda: 1. "he is my favourite kind of suspicious man because every time he shows up i’m like “oh thank god” and “oh no” at the exact same time. he’s a scammer. he’s a coward. he’s weirdly competent. he has scam victims with what sounds like an organised support group. he will absolutely sell you something fake and then act wounded when you call it fake. but he also keeps being useful?? somehow?? that’s the thing. he’s not trustworthy, but he is helpful often enough that you have to keep dealing with him, which is probably his entire business model.also he has that masked fools thing going on, so he’s not just some blue-haired guy committing small local fraud. he is almost definitely much stranger than he wants everyone in belobog to think, and i love that. deeply annoying man. please put him in more situations." 2. "Sampo is one of those characters where I fully understand why everyone in-universe is tired of him, but also, people are wrong if they think the story would be better without him. He’s a liar, a scammer, a smuggler-ish information broker, and probably a dozen other things depending on what day you catch him."
Who should advance?
Tybalt
Sampo Koski

ROUND 2 — Match 1 of 138
Simm!Master (Doctor Who)
Problematic because: "He becomes Harold Saxon, uses the Archangel mobile network to influence people into electing him Prime Minister, murders his own Cabinet, kills the US President on live TV, and brings the Toclafane to Earth. Then he rules the planet for a year, has the Toclafane slaughter huge numbers of people, keeps Martha’s family as servants/prisoners, imprisons Jack, and humiliates the Doctor by ageing him and keeping him as a pet-like prisoner. The Toclafane also turn out to be future humans from the end of the universe, so he’s using humanity’s own future descendants to massacre present-day Earth. In The End of Time, after being resurrected, he drains/kills people to keep himself alive, turns the entire human race into copies of himself, and tries to use the Immortality Gate for his own survival and power." Propaganda: 1. "My favourite flavour of Master because he is so unbelievably obnoxious in exactly the right way. He’s loud, childish, cruel, funny, needy, violent, and somehow both terrifying and ridiculous at once. This is a man who becomes Prime Minister under the name Harold Saxon, conquers Earth, keeps the Doctor as a little aged-up prisoner on a flying aircraft carrier, and then dances around to pop music while the world is ending. And the thing is, he’s not just goofy! He’s genuinely nasty! The year that never was is horrific. Martha’s family are trapped, Jack is trapped, the Doctor is humiliated and helpless, the Toclafane are slaughtering people across the planet. Simm!Master is funny because he’s so performative, but the performance is covering something really ugly - he wants the Doctor’s attention, wants the universe’s attention, wants to prove he matters, and if he has to break Earth to do it, fine." 2. "He makes the Doctor/Master dynamic feel personal in a very messy way. He hates the Doctor, misses him, wants to beat him, wants him to understand, wants him to suffer, and still clearly sees him as the only person who really matters. He’s ridiculous, cruel, funny, needy, and genuinely dangerous, which is exactly the mix
vs. Valdemar (The Arcana)
Problematic because: "Valdemar is Lucio’s Quaestor and head physician during the Red Plague. They’re hired to help cure the plague, especially Lucio, but they deliberately drag the process out because they’re more interested in experimenting than helping people. They dissect bodies (and vivisect people alive - like, they're obsessed with vivisection), use the plague as an opportunity for 'medical research', and are tied to the secret dungeon/lab under the palace. They also make deals with the Devil, weaken Death through that connection, and are one of the most openly cruel courtiers. They’re not conflicted about it either." Propaganda: "They’re one of the few Arcana characters who doesn’t really bother pretending to be nicer than they are. They’re calm, clinical, creepy, and very direct about their interests, which makes them stand out from the other courtiers in a different way. I like them because they bring a more medical-horror flavour to the story. Lucio is selfish and theatrical, Vulgora is loud violence, Volta is sad hunger, Vlastomil is gross and corrupt, but Valdemar is controlled. They feel dangerous because they’re curious, not because they’re angry, which makes them very effective as a villain."
Who should advance?
Simm!Master
Valdemar

ROUND 2 — Match 3 of 138
Actor Mark (Who Killed Markiplier?)
Problematic because: "The Actor, Mark, is described as a "narcissistic asshole" by his author. The once famous actor, after a rough divorce due to his wife's (honestly kind of warranted) affair, he isolates himself in his manor. The manor, having supernatural ties, manipulates him over these years that he spirals, and eventually causes him to plan his own murder at the hands of who "stole" his wife, William J. Barnum. He does this at his first poker night in many years, where his plan succeeds and William is the main suspect. Due to his body's damage, he intends to use the house's properties to steal the body of his childhood friend, and his wife's brother, Damien. He also manages to do this, with the manor killing Celine in the process. The party also leaves the District Attorney and The Detective dead, as well as William succumbing to insanity. After this, he begins hosting these "stories," such as A Date With Markiplier, A Heist With Markiplier, and supposedly Wilford Motherloving Warfstache with the abilities the Manor has given him. Mark believes himself to be the hero, the main character, the good guy. He thinks that all who participate in these stories should be grateful to him for allowing them such an opportunity, including Damien, whom he offers the role of the antagonist, leading to the creation of Darkiplier. He wants everything to revolve around him, and gets agitated or even pitiful whenever the viewer turns him down." Propaganda: "The Actor is a VERY compelling, tragic, but also very clearly In The Wrong kind of character. Just genuinely unforgivable while still holding the capacity to pity him because of the effects of the house. Hate this guy/pos"
vs. Bedelia du Maurier (Hannibal)
Problematic because: "she’s hannibal’s psychiatrist, she knows he’s dangerous earlier than most people, and she still keeps circling him because fear is Nawt the only thing she feels there. her past with neal frank is a huge part of it - he was hannibal’s former patient, he attacked her and she kills him, but bedelia later admits that what happened went beyond self-defence and into murder under hannibal’s influence. then season 3 takes it further because she runs away with hannibal to florence, helps live under the stolen identities of roman and lydia fell, stands by while hannibal keeps killing, and then later tries to build herself an alibi by making it look like she was drugged and helpless the whole time. she’s not hannibal’s innocent captive. she’s scared of him, yes, but she’s also curious, self-protective, complicit, and very good at turning her own involvement into something cleaner when people start asking questions." Propaganda: 1. "shes honestly one of the funniest hannibal characters to me because she spends half the show speaking in this calm, therapist voice while making choices that are absolutely deranged. but i do think people underestimate how much of her is survival. hannibal isnt some normal dangerous man she can just ghost and block. she knows what he is, she knows what he does to people who become inconvenient, and shes trying to stay alive around him with the tools she has - intelligence, distance, plausible deniability, and the ability to sound like she’s analysing the situation from above it while actively standing inside it. she’s not a pure victim, but she’s not exactly free either. she’s in this horrible middle space where she’s afraid, fascinated, morally compromised, and always calculating what version of the story will leave her with a way out." 2. "She is so good because she never gives you the satisfaction of being easy to read. Is she trapped? Kind of. Is she choosing it? Also kind of. Is she lying to the FBI, to Hannibal, to Will, to herself, or to all of them depending on the day? yes, probably."
Who should advance?
Actor Mark
Bedelia du Maurier
