This is my piece for Potluck Secret Satan 2026. My first time participating! I got to pick one of @freshestsquid's characters. I drew his fabulous, recently-divorced dwarf sorcerer named Krystle Balle, “The Amethyst Queen”. She was for a Curse of Strahd campaign, and I loved the vibe contrast.

I only got into digital art last year so I'm still pretty new at it. This is actually the first time I’ve drawn a TTRPG character for someone I don’t know! I tried to challenge myself with this piece and while I can see the issues, I learned a lot and I know what I want to work on for next time. I've been hella frustrated with my rendering process lately but this piece helped me understand why. Now to figure out out how to fix it...

Absolutely loved participating in this event!! This is one of my D&D characters, Talia Ironwharf. This portrait is a perfect representation of my bubbly paladin! Talia was raised in a "shorephanage" in a sailing town and went to work on the ships when she was old enough. One fateful night the ship she was working on, The Windfall, went down during a storm. She's pretty sure she died but the Seafather, a god thought to be a superstition, brought her back to life. She was shown incredibly cryptic visions of an Abyssal menace that threatened to destroy the ocean and then the land. All she knows is that she needs political influence to raise an army to save everyone.

Talia is sheltered due to her life completely revolving around the seafaring life. She also seems to struggle with slang and turns of phrase in Common, and sarcasm often goes over her head. She's also pretty traumatized from her last experience in the ocean and is working through some hydrophobia. Something seems off, though. Why did the Seafather reach out to this unknown sailor instead of someone with actual influence? Why has the party had to teach her incredibly basic things, like how to properly cook meat or make tea? Maybe she's down a few brain cells after her drowning. Ah well, thankfully the Seafather seems to have blessed her with more charisma than she knows what to do with. Everyone can't help but love her charming smile and genuine zest for life!
